Seductive, strong and sassy ….charismatic UK singer/songwriter Sarah McGuinness is a woman on a musical mission to thrill. With glamour as her weapon and the lyrical pen as her sword, this steely woman of mystery pulls on the mantle of her melodic alter-ego and steps into the limelight with her debut single ‘Glad You’re Gone’ on 17 November; with additional remixes from Todd Terry and Rich B and Phil Marriott.

An instantly addictive anthem of liberation, the single is released alongside McGuinness’ debut album ‘Unbroken’, which is a rich epic collection of stand-alone songs, each fusing vision with sound, as every song on the album will be accompanied by its own mini movie. The creative strength of Sarah McGuinness demonstrates that she’s been through the traumas of life, yet, like the strongest of women, she remains ‘Unbroken’. The debut single, ‘Glad You’re Gone’ was written as a big foot-stomping anthem of righteous anger and empowerment, depicting that twisting point when love becomes emotional manipulation and spirals into bullying. Friends, lovers, parents and children – people of all ages fall into the trap of stepping beyond their own personal comfort in a quest to appease those close to them.

‘Glad Your Gone’ is a joyously furious track, set at that moment between rage and sorrow when you know the manipulation is over and you can’t take any more; yet a spark of emancipated inspiration sets you free. Inspired by Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’, McGuinness ensures that her deep rich vocals command an anthemic song which will become a melodic chant for many years to come.

By day she’s best known as Sarah Townsend, the internationally renowned movie director, producer and screen writer for TV and the big screen, who’s most notable works include Emmy-nominated documentary ‘Believe’ and multi award-winning ’Noma: Forgiving Apartheid’, the lyrically-told inside stories of Eddie Izzard and Noma Dumezweni, the acclaimed black actress who shot to fame with her portrayal of Hermione in the hit new Harry Potter play ‘Harry Potter and The Cursed Child’.

By night the music takes over and her alter-ego, Sarah McGuinness, leaps into action like The Avengers’ Emma Peel. Immersing herself in the glamour and intrigue of the 50s & 60s silver-screen, Sarah slips on her stilettoes, slicks on the eyeliner and morphs into her sassy alter-ego; from Sarah the director to Sarah the singer/songwriter. Flipping herself inside out, and confidently displaying a previously unseen inner core, Sarah plucks at snapshots of her real life and delivers them melodically with all the strength and glamour of a 1950’s movie goddess.

“The song Glad You’re Gone is taken from the Unbroken album finds our artist delivering the feisty lyric in a mid-range voice that avoids shrillness or melodrama. The arrangement is a tumble of instrumental elements and swooping strings, redolent of spy film scores and insistent in tempo. But it’s the steady progression of the melody that hooks the listener for the duration of the song. Early surrender to this sensual swirling recording is recommended” – Pete Sargeant Just Listen To This
