Earl Slick In Conversation

High on our target list of musicians we would love to catch up with is American guitar sharpshooter Earl Slick, who we have seen perform with Glen Matlock and the New York Dolls. Of course his work with Lennon and Bowie is key to both these artists’ opera…Ear’s recall is exemplary. So this is two guitar nerds I conversation when Slick’s travels brought him to London…

Collateral, May 2019, The Borderline, London, United Kingdom

This was a significant performance for Collateral in the capital because only days before their set it was officially confirmed that due to the increasing London rents and the re-gentrification of Soho and the surrounding area with Crossrail et al the world-famous Borderline would be closing its doors for good at the end of August 2019.

The Struts – YOUNG&DANGEROUS

I’m not overly familiar with The Struts I must admit. I have read about them in the music press and how when they opened for the Foo Fighters the band’s frontman Dave Grohl stated that “they’re the best opening band they’ve ever had” and that the rock legend that is Alice Cooper made a cameo in one of their music videos but that is really it.

Glen Matlock – Good To Go

This album rocks like a bitch, but allows for some more tender music. Some of my favourite albums – from The Doors’ Strange Days onwards – pretty much fit that description and this collection is joining them. Matlock is aware of the past but doesn’t live there – most of this record is new or recent material, the one version included is an inspired choice.

Cornbury Music Festival 2018, July 2018, Great Tew Park, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

A phoenix-style return to love for 2018 – and beyond – found us Cornbury fans trekking back to the middle of nowhere (aka the Tews) for more music and entertainment . And some winceworthy ‘comedy’..It’s quite Ok driving around this area in the day and we found the signposting somewhat better this year. At night, driving around is hideous, for a stranger to the area. Whatever the expenditure on facilities in this neck of the woods, it sure ain’t going on lighting!

Cheap Trick – Christmas Christmas

As far as I am aware, this is the first seasonal release from the veteran rock band. It’s a mix of well-worn Xmas favourites and less familiar material but all delivered with the group’s customary energetic, guitar-fueled elan. The artwork blends the outfit’s checkerboard graphic with Christmas corn.

A treat from Vincent! A new studio album AND a live performance on a second disc with a show out in Columbus. Produced by old sparring partner Bob Ezrin, too. What can go wrong? Turns out, not much at all….in passing, Alice was surprised that guest drummer Larry Mullen from U2 insisted on seeing the song lyrics before working on the drum parts..unprecedented, says Cooper.
