Liv Austen
Window Shopping (Single)
(NUA Entertainment)
That delightful Norwegian-born, London based lady Liv Austen has released another single to whet our musical appetites for her debut album following her previous release ‘Don’t Regret a Single One.’
The new single is entitled ‘Window Shopping’ and was co-written with her friend Kaity Rae as they connected over their frustration with how superficial a lot of people are when looking for love. With a happy clapping intro the track doesn’t mess about with Liv Austen’s lead vocal arriving five seconds in. As she sings “I’ve gotta try you on, Wear you out all night long, don’t care if your fit just if we fit” I’m lyrically reminded of Brad Paisley’s ‘Hold Me In Your Arms (And Let Me Fall)’ from his acclaimed ‘Mud On The Tires’ record. On that song Paisley explains:
When you go out shoppin’
You try on brand new clothes
To see if something fits or not
There’s just one way to know
I wonder if Liv knows the track at all?
The electric guitar and keyboard backing on ‘Window Shopping’ provide the tune with the summery country pop that has helped make the likes of Taylor Swift and Maren Morris household names and the fact that it has a total run-time of two minutes and fifty eight seconds makes it attractive to radio.
In conclusion, Austen has a bright clear vocal which is well-suited to this country pop offering and whilst I personally prefer her previous single, ‘Window Shopping’ shows intent to follow in the footsteps of The Shires and dominate both the specialist charts and main top forty. Bring on the album!
