You recently released your new single ‘God Laughs ’which is also your first release in over a year. What was the story/inspiration behind the song and how does it feel to be releasing new music now for you give the year releasing hiatus that you had?

Being an independent artist means that I have to fund all of my own projects. So these long gaps are just me trying to figure out the best song to fund for a release. “God Laughs” was something I knew I needed to put out ASAP. It is my present moment, and it felt so right and necessary to share with everyone. It is about the ending of a relationship and accepting that so many things are out of our control.

The single is accompanied by a music video. Who did you work with on the video and how did you want to approach it?

The music video was directed by Cassie Howell. I only work with female directors, and filming this music video reminded me of why that is! It was such a gorgeous process and we captured everything we needed to.

 Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

I am a fifth generation Angelino (Los Angeles)! Los Angeles is electric, free, crowded, cool, and classic.

How do you look after your voice?

I drink chamomile tea with loads of honey and a 5-minute vocal warmup most days.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments/effects/pedals?

I know this is random, but I love my guitar strap! It is all bedazzled and has my initials on it! It sparkles so much under the lights on stage!

 Do you have any plans to release more new music during 2023/24?

Yes! I have a lot of great songs in the pipeline. Just need to figure out the right time for them to come out.

What music do you enjoy listening to?

I love Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Haim, Coldplay, Ryan Beatty, and Montgomery.

Do you have any live shows in the pipeline for example in the UK/Europe?

That is the ultimate goal. I want to play in London in 2024! I’ll keep you posted!

 Was ‘God Laughs ’a difficult track for you to write at all?

It was quite therapeutic. I was trying to piece together all the information that I had in order to make sense of the ending of a beautiful relationship. It is truly my heart in song form. It is probably the most honest song I have ever released because it touches on something so personal and current.

 What makes Madison Margot happy and what makes you unhappy?

Travel makes me the happiest. I love exploring new places and cultures. The world is so beautiful and there is so much to see. Mean people make me unhappy.
