Globe-trotting singer-songwriter Lucy Gallant is set to release her most provocative track yet ‘ DEVIOUS’. In addition, she will tour the UK and Europe this year and she graciously chatted to us at JLTT all about her plans:

When did you begin songwriting?
I wrote my first song when I was about 10 years old. It was a hit in my household—a ballad about a cow eating grass. My mum laughed, my dad mooed along, and I realised music was in my future!

What is your earliest musical memory?
I started learning drums at age 9, but one day, my music teacher showed up with a gigantic booger hanging out of his nose, It was like a scene from a horror movie—I couldn’t concentrate on anything else and decided my drumming career wasn’t worth the risk of another booger incident. Later on in life, I taught myself the djembe, so luckily, it all worked out.

Your new single ‘DEVIOUS’ is released on Friday 5th July 2024. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?
“DEVIOUS” is a cinematic soul-pop/trip-hop track inspired by an irresistible yet toxic relationship. It explores the addictive nature of a partner who is undeniably bad for you, but the passion and intimacy are unmatched. I liken this addiction to substances like caffeine or nicotine, showing how the relationship is both stimulating and harmful.

Can people pre-save the single now and do you have any extras for people who do?
Yes! I’ve created something special for those who pre-save “Devious.” I believe in giving back to my amazing fans. Once you pre-save the song, you’ll be directed to a page where you get exclusive access to the lyrics and the instrumental track. This way you can enjoy the instrumental and read the lyrics before the official release. Here is the pre-save link: https://bit.ly/3VVjjxP

Where did you record the song and who produced it?
I teamed up with Australian, Gold Coast, local and award-winning producer Josh Beattie. His masterful production transformed “DEVIOUS” into a cinematic masterpiece, blending soul-pop, cinematic pop, trip-hop, and vintage vibes.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
First, I hope the audience feels uplifted and happy. Second, I want to feel like I gave my best and soaked up all the good energy from the crowd. If everyone’s smiling and I’m buzzing, mission accomplished.

Do you have any favored stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones, etc.?
I love my classical guitar, woodwind cajon with kick and snare pedals, and my Shure KSM8 microphone.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Cairns FNQ Australia: lush, tropical, paradise, humid, coral.

How do you look after your voice?
I do vocal warm-ups most mornings, avoid smoking, drinking, and eat really healthily.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Though it’s already a film, my biggest dream is to create a theme song for a James Bond movie. The combination of thrilling action and sophisticated style is a perfect fit for a dynamic and memorable piece of music. Plus, contributing to the legacy of such an iconic series would be incredible.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
My influences include Billie Holiday, Kate Bush, Bob Marley, and Erykah Badu. I’m also loving Teddy Swims right now—I highly recommend checking him out!

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2024?
