Rising American roots rock band Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast will release their new ‘Blueprints’ EP on Friday 16th August 2024. They will then support the release with an Autumn 2024 UK Tour. The band chatted to JLTT about the EP, UK tour and more:
Who is in Caitlin Krisko and The Broadcast, what do they play and how did you meet?
The band is comprised of Caitlin Krisko (vocals) Aaron Austin (guitar) William Seymour (bass) Michael W. Davis (drums).
It all started in a quaint vintage record store on a hot southern summer evening. Caitlin Krisko, a powerhouse vocalist was nursing a cup of chai tea while scribbling lyrics into her tattered notebook. Across the record shop she noticed a tall rockstar looking guy with tousled hair and a vintage leather jacket. Intrigued by the occasional blues guitar riffs she heard from his headphones; she walked up to him to strike up a conversation. The rest is rock and roll history.
When did you begin songwriting and recording music?
It took me a solid 90-minutes to get to school every day in Manhattan from Staten Island growing up. To avoid the eyes of all the strange travellers, I took to writing in my journal which led to writing and recording songs.
Your debut EP ‘Blueprints’ is released on Friday 16th August 2024 How did you want to approach the making of the record?
In the immense comfort of my own home with my cats, candles, tarot cards, crystals and the garden.
Where did you record the EP and who produced it?
We recorded the album in our home studio in Asheville, NC, Olivette Studios. Our guitarist and song co-writer Aaron Austin produced it.
One of your previous tracks is ‘Operator’. What was the story/inspiration behind that song?
I wanted to make a song about a cheating man except in the end the woman gets her ultimate revenge by dumping him and dating the woman he cheated on her with.
You also have the single ‘Piece of You’. What is the story/inspiration behind that track?
Another epic take-your-power-back track, this tune is intended to capture the raw power of women in rock and roll energy.
In addition, ‘Piece of You’ is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?
We directed the music video on a dollar store budget by borrowing a friends camera lens, grabbing a few cocktails and having a night out on the town.
Who created/designed the EP artwork?
Aaron Austin and Caitlin Krisko were the creative directors behind the album aesthetic.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
I love a sturdy microphone stand.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
New York City – Best city in the US
Do you have any plans for live shows in Europe/UK in 2024?
We have a full headlining tour across EU and UK from end of August to beginning of October. Tickets are available from www.caitlinkriskoandthebroadcast.com
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins. It’s a wild and wonderful joy ride.
Which of your new EP tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
a) Operator b) Piece of You c) Have To Say Goodbye
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
Aretha Franklin, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Grace Potter, Samantha Fish, Jaime Wyatt, Sierra Ferrell. Chappell Roan owns my heart currently.
Was it a difficult album EP to write?
No, it was very cathartic
How do you look after your voice?
By giving it lots of compliments and telling her what a good job she’s doing for me out on the road! I treat my voice like a person!
What makes Caitlin Krisko and The Broadcast happy and what makes you unhappy
Happy and sad are transient emotions that don’t give me much of a feeling. I find joy in the nuanced complexities of life.
