Cyber pop/metal Queen Izzy Reign has released her latest single ‘Sandman’ which is her third single from her next album. We wanted to learn more about her music and she kindly obliged:

When did you begin songwriting?

Song writing in general? middle school to be honest. As far as this specific single , the process started back in January of 2024.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory is singing along on a karaoke machine with my mom to Alanis Moresette or watching my dad play drums in our dining room. haha.

Your new single ‘Sandman’ is out now on FiXT. What is the story/inspiration behind the track?
The story/inspiration stems from a condition I felt with called Chronophobia. Fear of time, or time passing to fast for that matter. Wanting to give time a face and show the inner demons I delt with on a day to day basis. Creating these very real beings.

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

This song was recorded in Grand Rapids MI at Accio sound studios with the writers and producers Nick Matzkows and Jon Eberhard.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
I hope to have given people hope. Through seeing that other people deal with the same things they deal with, and can still make it out. that they are not alone. And their feelings and mental states are justified. To give mental health awareness a chance to those who turn it away. And I hope that in the end of all things, people take IZZY REIGN, as a community. To recognize themselves and the others involved as being as important as they actually are. This isn’t about me. It’s about all of us. and I hope that that is how Izzy Reign will be remembered and known for. Community, empathy and hope.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
Considering I haven’t played a show since 2019, I don’t have a favorite stage product atm. However, Vocoders are one of my favorite things to mess with.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
GRAND RAPIDS! art, community, progressive, musical, Amazing craft beer. hahaha

How do you look after your voice?
By constantly learning new and better techniques, if you think you know everything, you will fail. I also absolutely love throat coat for vocal tracking and 10/10 recommend the Dr. Vox “bottlevox”. and as always, stay hydrated.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

This is an incredible question, and so hard to answer, but I would have to say although they already made a movie, Ender’s game would be sick. Or any comic for that matter.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
My musical influences stem from many genres for many reasons. I live basically anything that has ever been put into the League of Legends playlist, so a lot of the include comes from writing music that would fall under that category. Highly recommend every artist under that playlist as well. Some newer artists I personally recommend coming from different genres that are not exactly influential to me but I enjoy, are Wind Walkers, Archers, Conquer Divide and Black Magic Super Death Cult.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2024/2025?
As of right now, unfortunately I do not. But Stay Tuned!

You are set to release her debut album with FiXT in 2025. How are you feeling about this and what can people expect from the album?
Pure excitement and anxiety haha! I poured every uncomfortable part of myself into these songs and I’m proud of them but also know it is exposing a lot of the dark parts of who I am to the world. Expect chaos, and a rollercoaster of emotions. A lot of things to relate to, 10/10 workout playlist haha and just a wild mix of so many different vibes.

Was it a difficult song to write?
Weirdly enough, no! This one had one of the most fluid writing processes of them all! Lyrically draining , yes haha!

What makes Izzy Reign happy and what makes you unhappy?

I think happiness and sadness can sometimes intertwine. like these songs for instance, I was incredibly depressed writing them because of the harsh truth I had to outwardly admit to myself and process though, but also at the same time so happy and found relief while I was doing it.
And that’s the majority of life, things just being bittersweet, and that’s where you FEEL the most. Being able to acknowledge both good and bad at the same time makes you fully appreciate the human emotions.
