Five-piece UK rock band Gorilla Riot will release their new album ‘Salvation’ on 11th October 2024. Lead guitarist Charly T kindly chatted to us about the new record, its artwork and more:
Who is in Gorilla Riot, what do they play and how did you meet?
Arjun B ( Lead Vocals/Guitar), Charly T (Lead Guitars/Backings), Deggy D
( Bass ), Matt T (Skins), Luci B ( Backing Vocals)
We all met In Manchester’s music scene/nightlife
When did you begin songwriting and recording music?
About 9 years ago, but Arjun already had an albums worth of songs ready.
In addition, your new album ‘Salvation’ is scheduled for release. How did you want to approach the making of the album?
Its coming out this October, and we pretty much made the album as we wanted
to, as much analog as possible.
Where did you record the album and who produced it?
The album was recorded at Eve studios in the Greater Manchester area, and
produced by Martin King and the Band itself.
Who designed/created the album artwork.
The idea of the artwork originated from a photograph that was taken at the
wedding of a good friend, it was pitched to the Band 1 or so year later and Deggy did the design and the beautiful Album artwork.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
We don’t really use any pedals, except tuners and maybe a tubescreamer.
Gretsch,Fender,Gibson n Epiphones..just classic stuff really.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
We all have different hometowns, but its safe to say that we all feel very much
at home in Manchester.
Do you have any plans for live shows in Europe/UK in 2024?
Yes.
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Personally I would possibly go for something by either Roald Dahl, or perhaps
one of my favourite authors called Friedrich Glauser.
Which of your new album tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest
and c) most reflective?
To me this is not an angry record at all, because of that I would say that there is
a bit of everything in most tracks.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
Band : Stones, DC, Crows…STP..
Personal : I love John Martyn, Knopfler, loads of old stuff and funk.
Recommendation : Erykah Badu
How do you look after your voices?
No cardboard Roaches.
What makes Gorilla Riot happy and what makes you unhappy?
We love playing live shows.
Lets keep this positive ey
