Brit groove metallers, Fall Of Saturn have released their new single ‘Pray or Prey’ and the band very kindly spoke to us about the track, their future plans and more:

Who is in Fall Of Saturn, how did you meet and what do you play?

Fall of Saturn is a Heavy Groove Metal Band founded and based in London. Val initially knew Wil since 2016, as they briefly played together for almost a year in a different project. They both decided in September 2019 to form a metal band together. Then Linas joined the band a few months later, and Ernesto came to complete the line up. Ernesto is the singer, Linas plays the guitar, Will on the bass and Val on drums.

When did you begin singing/songwriting?

If you are referring to us as a band, from the first time we went to the studio the 3 of us (Will, Val, Linas), we started composing songs, while Ernesto added the vocals and the melodies when he joined a few years later.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest music Memory with Metal music (Val), i was 6 years old at  my cousin’s house (Older metalhead cousin), and he was blasting Black Sabbath’s Paranoid in high volume.

You have your new single ‘Pray Or Prey’ out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

The story for the song and the video has been inspired from Ernesto’s personal experience. In the parish where he grew up, there was an allegedly abusive priest, which left a lasting impact on him and led to a strong sense of rejection toward the Catholic Church. This painful reality inspired him to write lyrics about such a heinous subject.

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

We have our own personal studio fully equipped and we have recorded everything there. We did the production of the single, but Mix and Mastering has been done by our friend Edo Lopez from Singularity studios in Spain.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

One interesting story was after we had the song recorded but not mixed and mastered, we decided to change a few parts of the song and also the chorus. So, we had to go back to the studio and re-record everything from scratch.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

Linas used a Les Paul Custom made from Honduras mahogany (one of his guitars), to get this full body low heavy sound on the guitar. William used a Darkglass Microtubes pedal to get this tangent, punchy and distinctive sound we have on the single.

Was it a difficult song to write?

In general I would say yes. Even if we wrote the first version in a few weeks, it took us a few months to get it to its final form.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

The thought process behind the video came from Ernesto’s personal experience. We wanted a story telling video, which will reflect the lyrics. We have directed the video with ideas from our friend El Fragkotsis who also shot the video.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

Happiest we would say Teonzin, angriest Nemesis, Most reflective Knowledge is Power

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2025?

We haven’t planned anything for 2025, but we are composing new material at the moment…. So stay tuned.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

To leave the audience electrified, wanting more, and make sure we get all of our personal stuff from the stage. We had occasions in the past where we left behind a few things…

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Val loves his snare drum. He spent so much time and money on it (drumheads, snare wires, etc..) to make it sound huge and able to cut through the music. William loves his Darkglass pedals, Linas loves his peavey 6505 amp, and Ernesto Loves his in-ears. To be honest we all love our in-ear monitor system too.

How do you look after your voices?

Ernesto makes sure he is fully warmed up before every gig, and rehearsal. Also, an in-ear monitor system helps to hear yourself. The best you hear yourself, the better you will perform.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar, because we love Edgar Allan Poe and we have always been fascinated by mesmerism.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Val is from Larisa in Greece – Ancient, Agricultural, Hot in the summer.

Ernesto is from Pesaro in Italy – Beautiful but boring as hell.

Linas is From Kaunas in Lithuania – Spacious, nice and clean.

Will is from Epsom – Famous for salt and horses.

Do you have any live dates in the UK/Europe planned for 2025/2026?

We do have one at the Coalition Festival 2025 on the 30th of August. In the meantime we are focusing on writing new material.

What makes Fall Of Saturn happy and what makes you unhappy?

Playing live shows and composing new material makes us happy. We are unhappy when we have limited time to play music due to our busy individual schedules sometimes.
