Rising Welsh alt-metallers Edit The Tide return with force this autumn, announcing the release of their sophomore EP, ‘The Space Between Seconds’, set to land on Friday 21st November 2025. We chatted the the band here:

Who is in Edit The Tide, how did you meet and what do you play?

So it’s Ben on vocals, Rob on guitar, Rudy on drums and Dave on bass. We’re all Bridgend lads, and the band came together pretty naturally. Some of us knew each other from the local music scene, others were mates of mates – you know how it is, someone says “we should have a jam” and suddenly you’ve got a band. It clicked straight away. Everyone brings their own influences but at the core we all just wanted to make heavy music that actually means something and has a lot of melody.

What is your earliest musical memory?

Ben: singing along to songs on the radio way before my voice had even broken.
Rob: getting my first cheap guitar and trying to copy riffs – badly – until my fingers bled.
Rudy: banging pots and pans around the house until my parents gave in and bought me a drum kit.
Dave: hearing that rumble of bass through a wall as a kid and thinking, “yep, that’s the sound I want to make.”

When did you begin songwriting?

We all dabbled as teenagers – you write riffs or lyrics in your bedroom, not really knowing what you’re doing. But over the years you really get into the flow of it. Once we formed Edit The Tide in 2023, it felt like the ideas started flowing properly. It’s different when you’re bouncing off people who are on the same wavelength – songs come alive way quicker.

You have your new EP The Space Between Seconds released on Friday 21st November 2025. How did you want to approach the making of the EP?

With Reflections In Sound we were finding our identity. With this one we wanted to push everything further – heavier riffs, bigger choruses, and a more progressive feel overall. It was about capturing what people love about our live set but also creating something you can really get lost in at home. We wanted that balance between aggression and emotion.

Where did you record the EP and who produced it?

We recorded at Longwave Studios with Romesh Dodangoda. That was a massive deal for us because he’s worked with some of our heroes like Bring Me The Horizon and Funeral For A Friend. He knows how to push a band to get the best out of them. The sessions were intense but honestly inspiring – he has this knack of making you work harder without it ever feeling forced.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Plenty. Rudy cracked a cymbal during a take and it made such a wild sound that we decided to sample it and sneak it into the track. Dave seemed to lose about fifty plectrums – honestly, we think Romesh had a secret stash because one would just magically appear every time he dropped one. And there were those late-in the day moments when we’d be fried from recording but still cracking each other up – those bits keep you sane.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

Rob used a mixture of Bogner, Marshall and Peavey amp heads to get that balance of chunky heaviness and clarity. Ben used a couple of different mics – including a vintage one that gave his vocals a real grit that we loved. Rudy had his kit tuned to absolute perfection – he’s obsessed with the snare sound – and Dave kept his bass tone really tight and driving, but with a nice bit of grit.

Which of your new EP tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

·       Happiest: Dancing With The Shadows – it’s dark in theme but the energy of it is uplifting, it feels like you’re breaking through something.

·       Angriest: The Cost Of Standing Still– pure release, riff-heavy and full of fire.

·       Most reflective: Time And Error – the lyrics dig deep, and it’s probably the most emotional track we’ve written to date.

Was it a difficult EP to write?

Yeah, but in a good way. We didn’t want to write the same songs again, so we pushed ourselves into new territory. There were times we hit a wall and thought “is this even working?” but once we pushed through, the songs felt stronger for it. It’s the kind of difficulty that makes you grow as a band.

Who designed the EP artwork?

That was done by Ivar Longhorn. We loved his style and knew he’d get what we were going for. The artwork ties into the themes of time, fragility, and intensity that run through the record. He really nailed that feeling of something both chaotic and beautiful.

You have also got your new single Dancing With The Shadows. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

It’s about facing your own inner battles. Everyone’s got shadows – things you wrestle with mentally – and instead of pretending they’re not there, the song’s about learning to live with them, even dance with them. It’s heavy, but there’s a hopeful message in there.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

We wanted the video to capture that light vs dark feeling that runs through the song. It’s half performance – because we love that raw live energy – and half cinematic visuals that tell the story. It was directed by Tom Damsell Photography, and he just got it straight away. He brought out the moodiness without losing that energy.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Bridgend: gritty, passionate, loud, resilient, proud. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours, and the local scene here has shaped us massively.

How do you look after your voices?

Ben does warm-ups, drinks loads of water, and avoids the usual killers like dairy before a show. We all try to get decent rest too – though we’re not saints, a post-show pint is usually involved!

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2025/2026?

We’ve got Hard Rock Hell Festival in November which is a big milestone for us. After that, more UK headline shows and then the plan is to hit more of the UK in 2026. Playing new cities is something we can’t wait for.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

That the crowd leaves buzzing, and that we know we’ve given everything. If the audience is singing with us and we’re walking off dripping with sweat knowing we left it all out there, that’s the job done.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Rob and Dave have recently switched over to digital with Quad Cortex and wish they’d done it sooner!. Rudy’s kit is tuned to perfection, always ready to cut through live. And Ben loves the Shure SM7B – it’s versatile and always delivers.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

We’d go with The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It’s bleak, emotional and about survival – the perfect mix for us. Our music could bring out both the crushing weight of it and those fragile, haunting moments.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Deftones – the holy trinity of heaviness and emotion for us. For newer stuff, definitely check out Holding Absence and Sleep Token – they’re pushing modern heavy music into exciting places.

What makes Edit The Tide happy and what makes you unhappy?

Happy is easy – being on stage, connecting with people, and seeing fans sing the words back at us. Writing songs that mean something and feeling that connection is unbeatable. Unhappy? Feeling stuck, or like we’re going through the motions. That’s why we’re always pushing to keep things fresh – for us and for fans.
