“Energy” is the new single and title track to Lisa Rogers debut EP, due for release late 2025/early 2026 — a project brimming with glittering pop moments, heartfelt lyrics, and unstoppable grooves that promise to put Lisa Rogers firmly on the map. She chatted to JLTT here:

What is your earliest musical memory?

My dad playing the piano to Billy Joel in our house (he’s a pianist and a Billy Joel fan) and my mum playing Madonna songs in the living room dancing.

When did you begin songwriting?

I began when I was around 12/13 years old for school projects in music classes, and always had an interest for writing. When writing for my own pleasure it could be about anything, from my family members or a teenage breakup!

You have your new single ‘Energy’ out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

The story was all about celebrating the feeling of being in love and wanting that to be reciprocated by the other person. The inspiration for the melody came from ‘Ain’t Nobody’ by Chaka Khan, mixed with the cool 80s synth sounds from ‘Houdini’ by Dua Lipa.

Did you solely write the track or was it a co-write?

The track was co written by myself and producer Adam Kelly.

Was it a difficult song to write?

It came together pretty quickly and was a natural process. I think because we both had personal experience on the subject we both had ideas we felt we could play around with, and so the whole thing grew really naturally.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

The video was directed by Lulu Shing, and we both decided it should have a fun, energetic vibe to match the title. We wanted to make the whole idea cool and confident, and I feel like that comes across.

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

The single was recorded at Adam Kelly’s studio in London. It was produced by Adam there, and I feel like he did a brilliant job on it.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

I turned up to the studio (and to meet Adam for the first time) having walked from the station in the June heat sweating! But it was all fine and we had loads of fun, whilst working really hard non stop over two full days recording all the vocals. The highlight was the Chinese takeaway and chips for me, haha!

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

The equipment was all Adam’s in terms of the guitar and keyboard you hear, which he played himself. The sounds we wanted to use were the 80s synths along with a radio style effect over the vocal to mix both the past and present eras. Adam’s vocal was also used for the background lyrics, which have been altered to give an edgy pop feel.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

I feel like ‘Energy’ is my happiest, most reflective will probably be ‘Run To You’, and the angriest has to be ‘Without You Now’.

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2025/2026?

Wouldn’t that be great… we’ll have to wait and see.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I hope to have impacted the audience in some way, and leave my mark as an individual artist on them. I want people to think ‘Wow, that really moved me’ in a way they feel personally. I want that feeling to make such an impression that they want to hear more of my music.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I always love playing around with a variety of different vocal effects, and always enjoy hearing where they fit in when creating music.

How do you look after your voice?

I drink lots of water. Just in life but always during gigs. I also try to eat right before a gig is happening, and make sure I do a full vocal warm-up every time!

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

My two favourites are Harry Potter and Wicked, and both of those have been done absolutely superbly. So if anyone ever needed a remake, count me in!

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My hometown is in Hull in the UK. In five words I would describe it as Northern, grounded, home, friendly and chip spice!

Do you have any live dates in the UK/Europe planned for 2025/2026?

I always perform local gigs, but as for beyond that, watch this space!

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

My favourite influences are Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Dua Lipa, Raye and Olivia Dean. I would recommend Raye and Olivia Dean to anyone that doesn’t know them 100%.

What makes Lisa Rogers happy and what makes you unhappy?

What makes me happy is performing, spending time with people I love and doing things I enjoy like going to the cinema or for a day out. What makes me unhappy is people being unnecessarily negative and hateful. Nobody got time for that.
