Set for release on March 13th, ‘8 Tracks’ by Jack K is a rare cross-generational collaboration where music and poetry merge into something intimate, cinematic, and quietly dramatic. We chatted to him here:
Who is in Jack K and what do you play?
Jack K is Jack Kilburn – main songwriter and composer. I use my profile in different ways to showcase different projects. Some where I’m the lead and some where other artists are the main focus.
What is your earliest musical memory?
Learning to play classical guitar in the basement
When did you begin songwriting?
In my teens I had bands with mates. we wrote songs and performed them
You have your debut album ‘8 Tracks’ which is released on 13th March 2026. How did you want to approach the making of the album?
This is a special album for me. it’s a collab with my dad. never tried that before. he lives in the UK and I live in Denmark. He writes some really interesting poems and I’ve always wanted to try to put music to his words.
Where did you record the album and who produced it?
It is recorded at my studio in the countryside (kaninhullet.com)
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
I felt a bit emotional mad at the end listening to my dad on repeat while recording.
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
It is mainly guitar bases and then my zwicki pianette is very dear to me too
Which of your new album tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
All tracks on the album contain those emotions
Was it a difficult album to write?
Actually no. we recorded his poems without any music or tempo. funny enough his rhythmic pace and tone was really on point and therefore easy to work around musically.
Who designed the album artwork?
I did
One of the tracks is the single ‘Welcome To The New World’ which is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?
It’s a post-apocalyptic story about what kind of new world is coming towards us.
Do you have any visualisers to accompany the album release?
Not yet.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Hometown is Aarhus. In five words: Aarhus is a big village.
How do you look after your voice?
Drink tea
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026?
Nope, recording new stuff at the moment.
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
Content and bliss.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
No, I’m loose
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
New York Trilogy by Paul Auster – one of my faves.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
For this album – Arab Strap and Bitchin Bajas.
What makes Jack K happy and what makes you unhappy?
Working in music – both
