American singer-songwriter Jesse Lynn Madera has unveiled her “back-pocket” brilliant new single, ‘Woke Up in LA’. As she sets out touring the UK as special guest to Colin Blunstone, she kindly spoke to us:

Your new single ‘Woke Up In LA’ is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

I moved to LA from New York City very quickly, without taking time to plan or think it through at all. I’d met my husband while visiting LA for a wedding and made the decision to relocate practically overnight. I’d been wanting to make the move anyway, but the reality of starting over was intimidating once it was actually upon me. I was pregnant with our first son within a couple of months! So my anxiety spiked and I probably wasn’t terribly easy to live with.

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

We recorded it with my friend Jesse Cole on guitar at Willie Breeding’s studio in Nashville. Willie produced and mixed. It was a good time and easy breezy.

Who were the musicians who accompanied you?

Singer-songwriter Jesse Cole played guitar, Willie put bass on it, and Josh Matheny played dobro.

Was it a difficult song to write?

Not really. I wrote this a long time ago, at least ten years ago, so I don’t really remember the process well, but I don’t recall this one being a struggle. I think most of it just kind of poured out of me. I wrote it on piano as I do most of my songs. A friend who I’ve cowritten a few songs with, Rob McCulloch, gave his stamp of approval and also wrote the bridge pretty much in full!

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026?

I have a few in mind, but nothing official yet. I’ve got a lot of songs ready to track!

You will be making your UK debut supporting legendary musician Colin Blunstone 16-date tour in May 2026. How did that opportunity arise and how are you feeling about the shows?

I am tremendously excited! Colin is one of the greatest singers ever on this planet, and so I’m naturally honored. I had the pleasure of opening for The Zombies a few years ago on the east coast for a nice string of dates, a couple weeks, and that went well. I’m very grateful to be asked to do this UK run. It’s a big deal for me.

Have you made any plans to do any sightseeing whilst you are over in the UK?

Oh yes! Jesse Cole is coming with me to play guitar and he has never been to the UK at all, so we’ll be doing anything and everything! The obligatory Windsor Castle tour to start.
