Firstly the catalogue number of this release should you wish to order a copy is LONHOS01CD. This is a fundraiser single by the above and a version of the B A Robertson and Mike Rutherford song which was a hit for the aggregation known as Mike & The Mechanics.

The cause is to celebrate and support the Royal Trinity Hospice and the 125^th Anniversary thereof. There are various London and surrounding area hospices that will benefit from any monies raised and these include North London Hospice, Harlington Hospice, Richard House Childrens Hospice, The Hospice of St Francis, St Luke’s Hospice and Princess Alice Hospice, which is also supported by my own band with annual benefit shows and other events. To my mind, enjoying music and helping others is a good trade-off.  Good for Proper Distribution who are pitching in with help.

The recording finds ace songwriter, musician and vocalist Paul Carrack in the middle of an expansive rendition of the radio hit song. His affecting voice tells the tale of regret and the passing of time and changing of perceptions. The softly chugging damped guitars pad the tune along and the rich chorale – conductor James Hawkins – makes  the most of the melody. I think it was recorded out at Abbey Road, with the involvement of Peter van Hooke and co for the video. If you are not familiar with the song you will find it soothing and reflective.

The message is simply to let people know in the here and now that you appreciate them. Lest it is too late, later. Even us poker-faced types do well to heed this. A superior charity song, put together by the right people for the right reasons.
