Singer-songwriter Bamby has released her latest single ‘Don Dada’. We sat down with her to talk about the track, her hometown and more:

When did you begin songwriting?

I have always been a songwriter, since I was a little girl.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My first stage performing, my first song was a big hit! My first booking was sold out, it was crazy. This happened 8 years ago.

Your new single ‘Don Dada’ is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?

In my head I was a mix of Patra and Nicki Minaj

Your new album is also scheduled for release early next year. How did you want to approach the making of the album?

I just want everyone to welcome this album and feel like they are attending a big party with me, a big sound system with Bamby.

Where did you record the album and who produced it?

I recorded the album mostly in Paris with John Scrop and also in London! The producers are Muse&Music (my own label) and Carthage Music/Universal Music France.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Every studio session is a funny moment with me, this is the only way I can be creative. People have to be happy and in a good mood to be there with me. It is supposed to be a moment where we share ideas and good vibes.

‘Don Dada’ is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

The video is directed by Bien Vu, they are French, it was just a lifestyle representation of French Guyana. The inspiration is Dancehall music from the 90s.

Who created/designed the album artwork?

Me!

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

I used a lot of saxophone, piano as I love this instrument and a lot of bass.

Which of your tracks on your upcoming album hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

The happiest is Don Dada, the angriest is Ordinary and the most reflective is J’y croyais

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I am a real artist, I want people to be happy to see me, and I also want to sing well with all my heart.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I want bass, a good mic, a good retour son, great lightning and an excited crowd!

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My home town is in French Guyana as I come from there. Melting pot, good food, beautiful people, the sky is so blue and the sun is like gold so I love it! So many different cultures and a savage mode proper to us!

How do you look after your voice?

I take singing lessons and do a lot of breathing exercises

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

I really love Tina Turner, she is so strong. She never gave up, she always stood up for herself until she became older, she was becoming more beautiful with age, like a fine wine! This woman is a true life lesson for me, of strength and bravery.

Do you have any UK/European live dates planned for 2024/2025?

I hope so. Not yet but hopefully there will be really soon in the UK!

Was it a difficult album to write?

No everything was a good vibe. The most difficult part is now: mixing, mastering, controlling.

What makes Bamby happy and what makes you unhappy?

Honesty, loyalty, love, laughter are making me happy! What puts me in a bad mood is people acting in bad faith.
