UK rising artist BRIYERS has released his new single ‘Esoteric’. He chatted to us about his new music, recording and more:

When did you begin singing/songwriting?

I began writing songs when I was 14/15 and have never stopped since.

What is your earliest musical memory?

When I was a small child there was a piano in the house that was donated to my Dad from his childhood. He used to play it often, and I remember being fascinated by its raw sound.

You have your new single ‘Esoteric’ which is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

It’s about questioning inherited beliefs and the quiet war between conscience and conformity in a world that punishes those who care.

Was it a difficult song to write?

When I listen back now, I sometimes wonder how the words/melody came to my head. It was definitely an ‘in-the-moment’ situation where the ideas came quite naturally.

Do you have a visualiser to accompany the track?

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

I recorded and produced it myself in my home recording studio.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Well, I work alone most of the time, so not really. I’m always trying to complete recording sessions in between the madness of full-time work and family life, so I have had to learn to dip in and out of it.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

I have a Roland electric piano that I bought for playing live gigs and it has a lovely piano setting on it that I thought suited this song perfectly. I used an SE2200 condenser for the vocals as this was all I had at the time, but it sounds great and I’m happy with it! I record everything on Cubase and used a powerful plug-in called Analogue Strings by Output Audio to get a realistic and atmospheric tone.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

I’d say out of Esoteric and Enough is Enough – Esoteric is reflective and Enough is Enough is angry.

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2025/2026?

Yes, I am preparing to release a 12 track LP called Syncamore. This will include some gigs around the north of the UK.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

At least a few hits and some great memories of live performances to large audiences of people who know my music.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

My Fender Tele is my usual instrument on the stage with my Korg multi-FX pedal.

How do you look after your voice?

I do vocal exercises before and after long periods of singing. I also try to stay away from colds and coughs!

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

It’s already been done in the form of a series, but I thought The Handmaid’s Tale was an amazing Novel!

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Horwich, – Smaller than Bolton, in Bolton.

Do you have any live dates in the UK/Europe planned for 2025/2026?

Not yet

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Muse, Radiohead, Greenday

What makes BRIYERS happy and what makes you unhappy?

Writing songs and performing live music makes me happy. Going to work does not!
