Domina have shared their debut single ‘Apathy’, out now on Far From Records. We wanted to find out more about the band and their sound and spoke to them here:

Who is in Domina, how did you meet and what do you play?

We are Jude, Anders and Liv. Jude and Anders have been playing and writing together for about 6 years and Liv joined just over a year ago after meeting the guys in the South London scene. Jude plays organ, Anders plays Synth and Liv plays bass and we all sing.

What is your earliest musical memory?

Liv: Mine is probably playing piano with my mum. I was very lucky I had my great gran’s piano in my house growing up and I used to play duets with my mum from when I was about 4.

When did you begin songwriting?

Liv: I’ve been writing since I was about 10 just on piano and garage band. It’s always felt very natural for me.

Where did you record the single and who produced it?

We recorded the single in Jude and Anders’s garage at their house in south East London. Anders produced it all there too.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Liv: Before we recorded the songs I hadn’t really sung on the tracks but I remember when Anders asked me to lay some vocals down we listened back and it just made sense. It was an exciting moment noticing how well our vocals worked together.

Do you have any further new music releases planned for 2025?

Yes we’re really excited to be doing two more single releases and an EP launch this year. We’ll have a single coming out in August and September and then the EP in October.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

We’re from all over. Anders from Bucks, Liv from Herts and Jude from Essex so I guess we’re all south England suburban babies.

How do you look after your voices?

lots of tea coffee and cigs

Do you have any visualisers to accompany the single?

Jude has a visual language that has been developing alongside the band. He has created an accompanying video, mirroring the themes explored lyrically of urban living and sonic breakdown.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2025/2026?

Yea we’ve got a plastic factory headline date on September 17th in the diary. we’re also supporting rocket on their UK tour at the windmill on the 11th august (sold out), 27th supporting Slow Fiction at the George (sold out), supporting Do Nothing at Paper Dress (sold out) and also supporting YHWH nailgun in Tunbridge Wells on the 20th august.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I think we feel it when we’re all locked in and creating an atmosphere especially as our stuff can be quite trance like and we often do improv. we feel accomplished when we see the audience get into that and obviously when we’ve not made any noticeable mistakes.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Liv: I love the little singing bell hearts we have

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Stereolab, Beat Happening, Broadcast

Liv: I really like UK Brad right now I would recommend them.

What makes Domina happy and what makes you unhappy?

Happy: our analog equipment behaving, nice coffee, vintage clothes

Unhappy: bad sound system, bad coffee, misbehaving moog
