Dylan Schneider Talks New EP, His Voice And More

American country-singer-songwriter Dylan Schneider has released his new EP ‘Bad Decisions’ and we talked to him about the release, his voice and more:

When did you start performing and writing music?
I started writing and performing music at the same time, in 2015.

When you are songwriting, do you have a specific process e.g. lyrics first?
When it comes to songwriting, I usually like to start with a great idea and a great melody. Lyrics come from there for the most part. Melody is the most important to me.

In addition, you have your single ‘Bad Decisions’ which is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the song?
Bad Decisions is one of my favorites in a while. The day we wrote it, we all connected over the idea of a toxic relationship with that person you know you should stop running back to, which I think everyone has been through a time or two.

Your latest EP Bad Decisions’ is also out now. How did you want to approach the making of the EP?
With this EP, it all started after Ain’t Missin’ You caught so much attention across socials. It was all built from there and I just wanted to make the most well rounded project and best songs yet. There’s a little bit of everything which I love, including one of the most personal songs I’ve put out with Daddy Drinks Whiskey. It feels like my most mature and honest project yet.

What is your earliest musical memory?
My first musical memory was probably getting my first guitar when I was probably 6 or 7. It was for Christmas and it was a mini American Idol electric guitar.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones?
My favorite piece of equipment I own and use every weekend is probably my custom white microphone with my signature printed on it. I remember the day I got it I thought it was the coolest thing.

Do you have any live plans for 2024 in the UK and Europe?
Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be back in the UK or Europe this year. But I guarantee we’ll come see y’all in 2025.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My hometown is Terre Haute, IN. Kinda small town, kinda city.

What music do you enjoy listening to? Do you have any recommendations?
I usually stick to mostly country or hip hop but I listen to everything. One of my favorites lately though is the artist Tame Impala. I have a wide range of taste – if it sounds good, I’ll listen to it.

How do you look after your voice?
Recently, I have been trying to cut back on talking when I don’t need to during off days. It’s important to rest whenever you can, especially when you’re running like we have been this year. Throat coat tea always helps too!

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
My main focus is to make sure that I am giving everybody the best show and good time that they came for. I used to go to concerts as a fan every weekend, so I know how awesome it feels to see your favorite artist kill it. I also just want to get better with each and every show.

Do you have any more music releases lined up?
I have a lot of exciting stuff that’s going to be announced very soon, but not quite ready for that just yet so just stay tuned!

What makes Dylan Schneider happy and what makes you unhappy?
My family and friends are my main source of happiness, as well as getting to do what I love for a living. It’s a blessing. What makes me unhappy is seeing those people unhappy. I always do my best to be there for everyone around me if they need me.
