At 23 years old and with comparisons of an early Joe Bonamassa being made, we chatted to Garret T. Willie about his debut album ‘Same Pain’ and more:

Your new album ‘Same Pain’  is out now. How did you want to approach this album?

The album was released on September 15, 2023. It has been long anticipated by me and my team. We’ve been looking forward to the release of Same Pain for about a year now. My Co-Writer/Producer Parker Bossley and I approached this album by the way of “writing it as it happened” which now as I answer this… kinda gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Glad I don’t live that way no more!  Was it a difficult album to write? No, living it was. Where did you record it and who produced it?

We Recorded at Afterlife Studio in Vancouver, British Columbia and the record was Produced by Parker Bossley.Your latest single is ‘Make You Mine Tonight’. What was the inspiration/story behind that track?

The inspiration behind that track was that I came up with this Killer Riff. Parker did his thing and added to it, layered some stuff, built it right up, getting me to go higher up the octave and what not in the intro. He’s a real genius that way. Or he’s like me and fucked up enough to know what not to do. The song is about pulling chicks man… 😉 What more is there to say? Who do you have playing alongside you in your band?

Lucas Renshaw on Bass, Brett Smith-Daniels on Guitar, Sascha Enns on Drums and myself Garret T. Willie on Guitar and Vocals.Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My Hometown is Alert Bay, British Columbia. It’s a rough, depressing, and beautiful small town but there are no opportunities there. How do you look after your voice?

Throat Coat when people make me.

Do you have any favoured stage guitars/pedals/effects?

My favourite guitar to play is my 2007 Gibson SG Standard. The guitar pedal I use the most right now is a TS9 Tube Screamer and a Strymun Iridium through 2 Super Reverbs.

Do you have any plans to tour the UK and Europe in 2024?

Well I hope so! We’re working on it.What kind of music and artists do you enjoy listening to?

All time favourites are AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, and Fur Trade. What makes Garret T Willie happy and what makes you unhappy?

A good cigar and a root beer. A bad cigar and a root beer.
