Vocalist, musician, DJ and broadcaster Huey Morgan has announced that he will be returning to live stages with his new band Huey Morgan: The Fun Lovin’ Criminal for a selection of shows including Saturday 4th May 2024 at legendary venue The 100 Club in London. He gave us a quick and blunt rundown of the new project:
You will be returning to live shows with a brand new band ‘Huey Morgan: The Fun Lovin’ Criminal’ on Sunday 4th May 2024 at the legendary 100 Club in London. What was it that made you want to return performing full band shows and how are you feeling about it?
It feels great to be back playing my tunes for the people who love them, and as a performer I’m really excited to get back to it.
Who is in the band with you and what do they play?
I’ve got Mateo DiFontaine on keys, sequences and lap steel guitar, Mateo was in the original line up of FLC when we stated the band in ’93. On bass guitar and wisecracks is my main man from NYC ‘King”. The B3 organ and Rhodes keys is my new homie, my man Adrian Gautrey, and on the trap kit is the incomparable Leon James. They all very bad cats.
Did you have a specific selection process for assembling the band together?
Most of the band is my old friends from NYC, the other cats were referred to me.
Given your back catalogue, is it difficult picking a set list?
Nope, it’s kinda fun.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
It’s New York ********** City!
In addition, you will then be performing at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Peer Blues Peer Festival, Belgium and Kaleidoscope Festival in London. Have you performed at or attended any of those festivals before?
I’ve been playing festivals for almost 30 years and that is a whole lotta shows, please don’t make me try to remember stuff.
Do you have any plans to release any new music with the band?
I’m almost finished with a new album I’ve been recording with my good friend Peter Levin who is based in Nashville, we’re gonna be releasing that next year.
What makes Huey Morgan happy and what makes you unhappy?
I love to be around people who think for themselves and that aren’t judgy. So I guess the inverse would also apply.
