Gothenburg based singer-songwriter Isak Danielson has released his latest single ‘Always You’ and spoke to us prior to his European tour:
What is your earliest musical memory?
Watching a girl dressing up as Swedish jazz singer Monica Zetterlund and performing her song ’’Sakta vi går genom stan’’ in a talent show at my sister’s school. I wanted to be just like her, singing that song.
When did you begin songwriting?
I’ve written songs since I can remember, my first song was about a bell pepper I didn’t want to eat.
You have released your latest single ‘Always You’. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?
Always You is about reminiscing on the past, wondering if you made the right decision and feeling scared that you let ’’the one’’ get away. I was thinking of a man I had a relationship with and fantasized about the idea of us together today, if we wouldn’t have given up, what would my life be.
Where did you record the track and who produced it?
I recorded it in Stockholm at Atlantis Studios, Agrin Rahmani produced it.
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
We always have fun when we work together, but I can’t think of anything special.. We recorded in the studio where ABBA recorded their albums, that gave us some extra good vibes.
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
It’s the amazing Litens Anton Nilsson on piano and Erik Arvinder who did the string arrangement and his beautiful orchestra.
Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
I’m happy on ’’Always’’, angry on ’’Fire Burns You Cold’’, and most reflective on ’’Face My Fears’’.
Was it a difficult song to write?
Not really, it’s always a little hard to dive into anxious feelings and memories.. but I’ve gotten used to it.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
I am from Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden. It’s cosy, friendly, charming, easy and a summer paradise.
How do you look after your voice?
I don’t really look after my voice like I should.. I try to do my vocal exercises when I’m on tour and I have a glass tube I blow into in water that keeps my vocal chords healthy.
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026?
I am doing a little tour in the beginning of May.. Very exciting!
4/5 Berlin – Theater im Delphi
6/5 Paris – Café De La Danse
7/5 Antwerp – Kavka
9/5 Rotterdam – Bird
10/5 Amsterdam – Zonnehuis
12/5 London – The Tabernacle
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
That I’ve touched the audience, made them feel something.. and given them a bit of a laugh 🙂
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
I love the basics, piano, guitar and backing vocals.
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
I don’t read much.. if I’m lucky, one book a year, so I don’t know how to answer this question haha.
Do you have a video to accompany the single?
I do, it’s out now. I love it so much.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
I love Amy Winehouse, Adele, Hozier… and the old amazing jazz legends like Monica Zetterlund, Sarah Vaughn and Nina Simone. Also a big Sabrina Carpenter fan:)
Do you have any new music releases planned for this year?
I have a lot of new music coming this year!
What makes Isak Danielson happy and what makes you unhappy?
I’m happy when I’m out in nature, drinking coffee in the spring sun, traveling and singing on stage. What makes me unhappy is the world right now.. I feel so much for everyone affected by the horrid things that are happening.
