British singer-songwriter Jack Cullen has released his seven-track ‘Everything’ EP via RCA Records. We chatted to him about the EP and more:

What is your earliest musical memory?

Must be playing a toy trumpet that required no musical talent to make a sound (yes we have a video aged 5)

When did you begin songwriting?

When I was living in Ireland. Post break up with girlfriend and bed bound due to an injury… I turned to writing as a way to process. And have never stopped.

You have your new EP ‘Everything’ out now on RCA Records. How did you want to approach the making of the EP?

The EP was began before the days of RCA. So actually the approach started with some close friends of mine Carey and Jamie who helped shape the EP. I wanted to approach it with as high energy as possible.

Where did you record the EP and who produced it?

Most of the EP was recorded Brickfield Studios in Brockley (London). Probably my favourite studio in London! The songs were produced by Jamie Clarke, Carey Willetts and Tobie Tripp. All close friends and wonderful producers!

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

We slammed a basket full of matches on the floor for a snare drum in ‘All I Need’

Which of your new EP tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

A) Always Forever In Love – B) Two Of Us – C) We Don’t Need

Does the EP’s title have a specific meaning/significance?

The title originally came from the lyrics of ‘we don’t need’. ‘I said I love you, and that means everything.’ These words sum up what the EP is about perfectly.

Was it a difficult EP to write?

I wouldn’t say difficult no. Of course there are challenges and times when I had to sit longer with the songs to come to be how they are. But overall it was an open hearted fun time to write.

Who designed the EP artwork?

Ryan Jafarzedah. He’s someone I’ve know for a while in my time in music. And he’s special! We had the idea to have dinner with friends. And for the artwork to come from there. As if a fly on the wall to capture a moment with friends.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My home town is Bishops Stortford. It’s: Fun, green, warm, cold and home.

How do you look after your voice?

I warm up, warm down. And keep on top of steaming when I need.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2025/2026?

I do I doooooo!!! Stay tuned!

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I have a special old Nylon string guitar from the 60s which I adore and comes with me everywhere.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

It’s ’the book of lost things’ it’s my favourite book full of ups and downs in adventure. I think it would be a challenge but an exciting one!

One of the tracks is the previously released single ‘All I Need’. What was the story/inspiration behind the song?

This song at the heart is a love song. It’s a song of gratitude and to remind me that if we strip away everything, and we hold love from friends and family then we’ll be alright.

Do you have any visualisers to accompany the music?

Yes I do. Me and of my best friends cycled the length of the UK with everything that we needed on our bikes. We had the best time!! An adventure that I’ll cherish forever.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Soooo many! From all walks of life. Artists like Matt Corby, JP Cooper and Allen Stone were just a few that helped me be inspired to write music.

What makes Jack Cullen happy and what makes you unhappy?

Feet on grass makes me happy. Hot sweaty socks make me unhappy.
