Fast-rising star Jude Moore has announced his new EP Rough And Ready for release on 10th January 2025. Having released singles including ‘Twisted’ and ‘Forever’ recently we felt that now was the perfect time to talk to the man himself:
When did you begin songwriting?
Well, I started as a drum & bass MC when I was like 10 years old, so I was already writing little raps from that age. I brought my first guitar when I was 12 and that was when I writing songs, bridges and hooks.
What is your earliest musical memory?
My early musical memory is having technics 1210s in my living room and my mum and dad playing DJ in and me MCing through the microphone to UK garage or jungle or a lot of reggae dub music.
Your new single is a live version of ‘Twisted’ which is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?
I feel like it speaks for itself, but it’s about being young, being dumb, and then sometimes having a realisation, moment of I just want to go back home, you know. I feel like as you get older, you start to realise how easy you had it as a youngster, how easy it was, it’s just about being a teenager, just about being young.
Did you collaborate with anyone on the writing of the song?
Yes, lan, my friend lan and Dom, my good friends, lan and Dom from SOHO Sonic, they produced a song.
Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
I’d say ‘Twisted’ is like a happy and reflective song. And then, from my EP, we’ve got ‘Busy’, which is quite a reflective song as well. ‘Grow Up slow’ is quite a reflective song. I’ve not really got any angry songs yet.
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
To make my family proud and to make my daughter proud. To just make people happy when they listen to the music, or make them be able to sit and just chill and listen. Like how we listen to music, you can be happy and listen to a song. You can be sad and listen to a song. You could be in a reflective mood and want to listen to a song. And to just inspire people and just to make them be able to listen and think and take their mind off things.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
My favourite instrument is the guitar. I also love the saxophone, and I also love the harmonica as well, which is a beautiful instrument.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My hometown is Basildon. To describe Basildon in five words, infamous, cold, dismal, grey, but good people.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
I really love Dire Straits, I love Oasis, I love Jamie T and I love The Kooks. I also like a little bit of Johnny Cash as well, the way he plays guitar. He’s cool, that’s like my musical inspirations and influences, obviously, Michael Jackson as well.
There’s loads. There’s too many. I can’t even think off the top of my head now, but there’s so many.
Do you have any future music releases planned for 2024/2025?
My EP is coming out in January and I have a new single ‘Forever’ out on November 1st
What makes Jude Moore happy and what makes you unhappy?
What makes me happy is being with my daughter and family and having food on the table and just, you know, just being like that makes me content, just having that. And what makes me unhappy is myself. Sometimes my own thoughts make me unhappy, you know, my overthinking thoughts make me unhappy.
