The creative Junkerry began as a student of jazz guitar at the American School Of Modern Music in her hometown of Paris before moving to India for ten years, immersing herself in the study and performance of Hindustani classical music. With a series of live experiences scheduled, Junkerry very kindly spoke to us at JLTT:
Who is involved in Junkerry and what do they play/is their role?
Junkerry – I am a composer/musician and the creative director of the Junkerry Studio. Ian Milne is the project producer and Sibilla Graniti looks after the Events/Management. The studios work is multidisciplinary with sound at its core.
I don’t want to give too much away for people, but could you please explain the Junkerry ‘Together Apart’ live experience for our readers?
Together Apart is bold multi- sensory show, composed using cutting edge spatial audio technology, with stunning visuals conceived for giant screen theatres and planetariums, An exotic swirl of atmospheric throb, soulful pop, classical Indian, jazz and touches of afrobeat that envelops you from every angle, shifting and drifting in an unknowable space.
When did you first have the idea for this 4-D experience?
During covid. It began in 2020 with interviews featuring a diverse array of people including philosophers, children, and friends. Their generous contributions shaped my exploration into themes of belonging, loneliness, Inclusion, and togetherness and this informed my 50-minute score.
What is your earliest musical memory?
Sound of nature, the birds melodies and their rhythmic patterns.
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
To have created suspended moments where people have been present and felt a sense of connection.
What makes Junkerry feel most connected?
I feel the most connected, when I am fully present and give my full attention to something or to someone.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Hometown Paris – the cultural melting pot & late jams
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
Oh yes! My SG Gibson electric guitar – light and versatile; the amazing Glouglou Loupé pedals who copy some of the unic Echoplex fonctions, and my old Line 6 delay. I also love to capture live eerie voice freezes!
What do you hope to achieve with the project?
To take our bold contemporary show to new audiences who may not have encountered an ambisonic experience, while a moving art show is happening around them.
