American singer-songwriter Kelsey Hart has released his debut album ‘Life With You’ on Curb Records. Kelsey graciously sat down with JLTT to talk about his debut album, his voice and more: .
When did you begin songwriting?
I started going back and forth between Kentucky and Nashville in 2016 to pursue song writing. The first couple songs I ever wrote where after me and my buddies won a Battle of the Bands in my hometown.
What is your earliest musical memory?
My earliest musical memory is listening to gospel music in the truck with my dad.
Your new single ‘Without You In It’ is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?
The inspiration behind “Without You In It” was to tell your person or significant other how important they are to you. It’s written from the viewpoint of telling them what your life would be like if they weren’t apart of it.
In addition, your debut album ‘Life With You’ is out now. How did you want to approach the making of the album?
I wanted to make a well rounded album that everyone could find something to relate to and connect with. When I started writing for the album I envisioned my live show- I wanted to give people a full experience of different music to sing, dance and party to.
Where did you record the album and who produced it?
My buddy Blake Bollinger produced the album at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, TN with some of the best musicians around. We also cut some vocals at Curb Studios.
Which of the tracks on your new album hear you at your a) happiest, b) and c) most reflective?
Happiest: Life with You, Burn my Summer, Put it On the Map
Most Reflective: Without You In It, Daddy’s Fault
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
After I leave a stage I feel successful if I feel like we put on a good show and the listeners connected to the music and had a good time.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
As singer I favor a cordless mic that allows me to perform around different parts of the stage and my acoustic Taylor guitar.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My hometown is Central City, Kentucky. The five words I would use to describe it are country, friendly, laidback, El Braceros (my OG local Mexican restaurant), and family.
How do you look after your voice?
To look after my voice I try to get vocal rest between shows and stay hydrated.
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
There are so many artists who have influenced me throughout the years. Blake Shelton, Bellamy Brothers, Luke Combs and Jake Owen are at the top of the list to name a few.
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2024?
Not yet, but I can’t wait for the opportunity to get to play abroad!
Who created/designed the album cover?
Wes Youssi
Was it a difficult album to write?
I wouldn’t say the album was difficult to write but it took a long time and I really enjoyed the process of writing and choosing the right songs for it.
What makes Kelsey Hart happy and what makes you unhappy?
Spending good quality time with my wife, dogs, family, and buddies make me happy. I enjoy being outdoors, mowing a lawn, grilling, and making country music.
I’m a really easy going guy but a few things that make me unhappy are traffic, people who stand up before their turn to get off an airplane, mosquitos, and littering.
