Livvy Lauren, a rising star from Kent, United Kingdom has released her new single ‘Felt Love’. We sat down with her to chat about the track, her hometown and more:
When did you begin songwriting?
When I was about 5/6 years old, I used to write so many random (and quite awful) songs just to perform to my parents but I started seriously songwriting whilst I was at University! Whenever I was feeling low, I used it as a form of escapism and almost like a little therapy session where I could just get all of my thoughts out onto paper! They were never really meant for anyone to listen to, however when I finished my degree in Musical Theatre, I felt a little bit lost and randomly decided to start sending my music out to some producers and industry professionals and received amazing feedback! This is really what sparked my career as a songwriter and artist!
What is your earliest musical memory?
My earliest musical memory is probably singing “Part of your world” from The Little Mermaid! I remember it being one of the first songs I learnt for my singing exams, and I actually ended up singing it at The Thanet Festival! I think I must have sung this song over 500x because I was such a perfectionist, even at that age!
Your new single ‘Felt Love’ is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the song?
“Felt Love” is such a fun and catchy song that has a feel good/care free vibe! I wanted to write lyrics that are relatable and express the connection between two people with undeniable chemistry. Whether they’ve just met on a dance floor or have been together for years, the song is about discovering a playful romance that makes you feel carefree, youthful, and alive. I drew a lot of inspiration from my current partner, whose infectious energy always brings out the best in me, even during my darkest moments. Ultimately, I wanted to create a track that encourages people to sing along and dance because that’s the kind of music I turn to when I need a boost.
Where did you record the track and who produced it?
“Felt Love” was originally written at Abbey Road Studios with Jungleboi who is an incredible writer! He has worked with the likes of Ella Eyre, Ella Henderson & Zayn, and knows the dance pop world really well! He is a super relaxed and fun guy, so this made the writing process so fast and easy, especially as we both had the same energy and thought process’ behind creating it. The song was then produced by a good friend and crazy talented producer called Tim Gosden, and we recorded the single at Metropolis Studios. Metropolis has a big place in my heart as it was the first ever studio I recorded in!
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
Recording ‘Felt Love’ just happened so fast! I came into the studio with a lot of energy, so as soon as I got behind the mic I think we recorded the whole song, harmonies, and adlibs in under 2 hours! Tim and I are really close, so this helps the recording process as our brains work on the save wave-length and we can be really honest and open with our creative ideas! We had hired the studio for 6 hours, so we actually got two songs recorded in that time and had about 2 hours break as well in the middle for pizza! – Ordering food to the studio is essential for me ahah!
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
We used a Sony C800G for this recording! I hadn’t used this mic before but my producer recommended trying it out as I know a lot of massive artists and stars use this microphone, and it sounded so crisp!!
Was it a difficult song to write?
The song writing process for ‘Felt Love’ was really quick and easy! I think as long as you have the right energy going into the studio that reflects the style of song you want to write, it can happen really fast! I had the initial hook idea in my head “I felt love a million different ways tonight’ which I started randomly singing one day whilst driving home, and after that I couldn’t get the melody out of my head! I knew instantly that I wanted to write a song from this, and on the train journey to Abbey Road, I actually wrote a few verse ideas, so as soon as we got into the studio, we just had to work on perfecting the lyrics and melodies!
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
Coming off stage, the two main things I would want to feel like I have achieved is 1: A sense of pride for myself – knowing I did a really good show and that I am happy with my vocal performance & 2 : That the audience feel uplifted, alive and energised by the end of my set, making it one to remember!
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
I’m not really a tech nerd, so the types of microphones and equipment etc is something I rarely think about and often trust the team around me for advice regarding this! However, my favourite instruments to perform live with are actually electric strings! It’s so rarely used nowadays but I feel like they bring such a fun vibe to the stage!
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My hometown is Canterbury which is a little city in Kent! I love this place so much, it is where I grew up and went to school so It will always be a special place for me. I’d describe it as cute, historic, charming, cosy, cobblestones
The single is accompanied by a visualiser. What was the thought process behind it and who created it?
Filming the visualiser for ‘’Felt Love’ in New York was an incredible experience. The city’s energy is honestly like no other—it’s fast-paced, vibrant, and full of life, which I think really mirrors the overall vibe of the track. Being surrounded by iconic landmarks and the buzzing streets gave the shoot this raw, fun and edgy feel that felt right for the song’s uplifting and energetic sound. The city lights, and the buzz of Times Square was the perfect backdrop to emphasise the excitement and rush of emotions that the track is all about. It was a dream to bring that energy to life in such a legendary city!! The Videographer is a guy called Jordan Nazario – again another super talented person!!
How do you look after your voice?
I think because of the extensive vocal training I have had throughout my life, taking care of my vocals has always been no.1 for me! I try not to shout and scream at concerts anymore (even though this can sometimes be hard), and if I am performing live or in the studio, I won’t drink any alcohol throughout the week leading up to it! Honey and Lemon tea and vocal steaming also works a treat + warm ups are essential!
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Haha this is a good question! I typically write a lot of upbeat dance music, and read only psychological thriller based novels, so they don’t really work together!! But if I were to take myself back to when I was doing my music A level where I was writing a lot of scores for things like film etc – I would probably do it based on Verity by Colleen Hoover! – You could have so much fun with the dramatic feel of this book!
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
My musical influences right now are Tate McRae, Ella Henderson and Jorja Smith! I love the blend of dance music with the passion and soul of R&B so these artists for me are incredible! I also loveeee listening to TYLA at the moment, her latest album is incredible, every time I listen to it, it puts me in such a good mood and makes me want to dance!
Do you have any further music releases planned for 2024/2025?
Yesss I am currently working with my team on planning my next release! I have so so much music literally waiting ready to go, so it’s all planning now!
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2024/2025?
At the moment I don’t! With only one official song out, I am hoping to get a few more singles out before I start performing live, but I am so so excited for this in the future!
What makes Livvy Lauren happy and what makes you unhappy?
The simplest of things make me happy, without sounding cringe or cliche – I love making other people happy, I am a very giving and thoughtful person because I love to see my friends and family happy and hopefully my fans in the future too!! I also love going to the gym, good cups of coffee, and playing tennis! Exercising helps with my ADHD so this is essential for me every day otherwise I go a little crazy ahah! … The things that make me sad – my anxiety with my career and the pressure I put on myself (that’s the deeper answer) + I’m a sucker for dogs with bad lives .. all the adverts and rescue home pictures make me so sad, I would take them all if I could!!
