The Swedish singer and self-proclaimed ‘writer of heartbreaks’ releases Louise Lemón has her latest album ‘Lifetime Of Tears’ out now. She kindly chatted to us about the new music, her voice and more:
Your new album ‘Lifetime of Tears’ is out now. How did you want to approach the making of the record?
I wanted to create something that really was authentic from the words to the sound so I decided to record it live and use as much analog equipment as I could. I wanted the sound to resonate with the words, to have the same authenticity.
Where did you record it and who produced it?
I produced this record together with Anders Ludwigsson who play keyboards with me and we recorded it at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm. It was an amazing experience to be there, we could all feel the history in the walls and there we had the possibility to work with analog equipment to the extent that I wished.
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
It was just an extremely enjoyable time, warm, sunny and focused.
In addition, you have your single ‘Tears As Fuel’ which is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the song?
This whole record revolves around the process of a breakup and Tears as Fuel really is a song that describes a relationship or a person where all you are left with is tears.
The single is accompanied by a music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?
I wanted to use the same theme as I did with the whole record itself, from darkness to light. I directed it together with Johan Lundsten and we used natures healing powers to get us through the song. It was shot in Barcelona, my second home.
What is your earliest musical memory?
I grew up in a family where music was very important, one core memory was when I got to go to my first concert when I was five years old and after the concert my father put me up on the stage just so I could feel it, that is something that stuck with me.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones?
Reverb. I love a great reverb without any pre-delay.
Do you have any live plans for 2024 in the UK and Europe?
Not at the moment, but I can’t wait to play these songs live.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
A place that taught me about melancholy.
What music do you enjoy listening to? Do you have any recommendations?
I listen to a broad variety, I like to listen to Hermanos Gutiérres, Chris Stapleton and Sam Fender right now.
How do you look after your voice?
I do yoga and that helps me a lot since you work with your breath so much. It also helps with awareness of your body and mind.
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
To have touched the listeners heart, that we have made a connection and gotten stronger out of it, to have created a universe out of the normal reality.
Was it a difficult album to write?
No it was really clear for me what I would write about and this album came to me easily.
What makes Louise Lemón happy and what makes you unhappy?
Sun, ocean and good food makes me happy and what makes me unhappy is stagnation and being in places with people who aren’t aware of themselves or of others.
