London’s finest purveyors of rock’n’roll, The Dust Coda have released the new single ‘Never Go Back’ and will tour the UK in October 2025 with co-headliners Bad Touch. The band kindly spoke to us here:

Who is in The Dust Coda, how did you meet and what do they play?

Andrew Knightley – Lead Vocals & Guitars
Adam Mackie – Guitars
Tony Ho – Bass
Scott Miller – Drums

What is your earliest musical memory?

Adam – listening to cassettes in my parents car, they had good taste in music. OMD, Tears For
Fears, The Stranglers, U2, Simply Red, and Eric Clapton – a huge influence for me in my early
years.

Andrew – Listening to Eye Of The Tiger on vinyl single and Let’s Dance by Bowie that was my
mums record. I think that sums up where I went from there!

You will be embarking on a co-headline UK tour with Bad Touch in October. How are you feeling about the tour and do any of the venues/locations hold any personal significance for you?

Adam – We had to reschedule which is a shame but it was out of our hands.
Really glad the team got the new dates sorted for when we announced the change though, so can
start looking forward to playing these in October now.

Newcastle is where my family is from so it always holds a special place and bias for me – I
absolutely love playing there. Glasgow always goes off when TDC is in town!

Had some of our best nights on stage up there and can’t wait to head back. And can’t not mention London –
hometown gigs are always special, and really proud of the following we are building up there.

Andrew – Really looking forward to getting out there with the band. I will cherish every show on
the tour. London will be great as its home turf and have never played the O2 Islington before.

Seen some great bands there on their rise like Rival Sons and Greta Van Fleet. Yeah the whole
tour is going to be something exciting and new for me.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

Adam:

1. Make people feel like they have been absolutely slapped in the face by a huge, gigantic
slab of pure rock ‘n roll!

2. A great live show can also be about escapism for the crowd and bringing them together –
taking the audience to that place away from their everyday where they can fully immerse
and enjoy that thing that makes them most happy, surrounded by like minded people

Andrew:

1. Making sure you give 100% to everything every night is important to me. Theres a
transfer of energy between the band and the crowd and if you get that going it’s electric!

2. Making as fewer mistakes as possible that makes me happy too!

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Adam – I’m a Gibson man through and through, and on the road always have my trusty Les
Paul’s with me, or another model that Gibson have generously leant me.
I’ve been playing the same Marshall Amp Head for over 20 years now!

Pedals wise I’m really digging my new Shaffer Replica Storm and can’t wait to get it out on the
road.

Andrew: I mostly play Tele’s and Les Pauls. I recently purchased a 20w Super Lead so I don’t
melt peoples ears in the literal sense. I have a 100w SLP but I’m reserving that one for the
arenas. I love a good POG pedal too you can use those bad boys for all kinda things.

You have your new single ‘Never Go Back’ which is out now. Could you tell us about the track?

Andrew: ’Never Go Back’ is a banger that thunders along like a steam train! It’s a testament to living fast and always looking forward. We really hope you all dig the song & keep on rolling!

Adam: ‘Never Go Back ‘has come out as an all-out banger which really sums up where the band are at the moment with the renewed energy Andrew has brought to the group since joining. We all effortlessly took to this song straight away, and that really came across in the recording process as well which was so much fun.

With the artwork we wanted to try and capture a part of what the song is about. In the rearview mirror a skull is placed as a reference to the past, while the road ahead turns into a wavy, psychedelic background to create a sense of movement and hint at the surprises of the future the car is heading towards… whilst blaring out loud rock music on the way of course!

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Adam: London – expensive, but it has EVERYTHING

Andrew: Currently Chesham via London via Cambridgeshire. But assuming Cambridgeshire
“Quiet, flat, rivers, fairly boring”

How do you look after your voice?

Andrew – I do a lot of scales and exercises most days to keep it in shape and its really an
ongoing evolutionary thing. Getting plenty of sleep the night before a show is actually the most
important thing and honey, lots of honey.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

Andrew: The Master & Margherita. I’m reading it at the moment and its blowing my mind. You
could do some really deep swampy vibes for that. It could get very Proggy.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Adam: Far tooooooooo many to mention here!! I’m going to see The Datsuns play live soon,
and I absolutely love them. Their debut album was a big influence on the early TDC sound –
literally everyone who enjoys rock n’ roll should check that album out. I’ve loved the progression
of Rivals Sons, another big early TDC influence, and so proud to be on the same album as
them.

Andrew: Loads of stuff too many to mention but Van Halen, DC, Zep, The Supremes, Beatles,
Mozart, Taylor Swift, Nick Drake, JoBo, Stevie Wonder/Ray Vaughan, Rival Sons, Son House,
Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy. Check out DeWolff they are immense and deserve to be way
bigger than they are.

What makes The Dust Coda happy and what makes you unhappy?

Adam: Just being able to do what we do – the continued support really just blows us away! To
know that there are people out there digging our take on the amazing genre that is rock n’ roll is
really cool and inspiring.

What makes us unhappy – warm beer 🙁

Andrew: Beer, music and community are good things. Unhappy – bad drivers and TFL
