Tori Darke is one of the most compelling and dynamic female voices in the Australian country music scene today. Known for her powerhouse vocals, fearless lyrics and magnetic stage presence, Tori has carved out a space as both a hitmaker and a fan favourite.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory was singing in the car with my parents when I was about 4 years old. They always had the local Sydney radio station playing and I was always in the back singing at the top of my lungs. I knew every word most of the time…at least… I that’s what I remember from being 4 years old haha.

When did you begin songwriting?

I started trying to write songs at 15 when I picked up my first guitar. I loved the creative process and I haven’t looked back since.

You have your single ‘Prettiest Wreck’ out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the song?

The inspiration behind ‘Prettiest Wreck’ was my own personal heartbreak. After an 8 year relationship ended, I wrote this song about getting through it and putting on a brave face. I actually held on to the song for a number of years because I wasn’t ready to air that part of my life, but now I’m in a really good place and I want this song to be there for anyone else going through a rough time.

Where did you record the track and who produced it?

‘Prettiest Wreck’ was recorded with Liam Quinn in Sydney.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

I’m so in the zone when I’m in the studio that I don’t really have any funny stories but one thing I can think of is when I’m recording a new song I’ll be reading the lyrics word for word and even when I’m reading them I’ll still forget the word whilst reading them. Sometimes I’ve spent a whole 15 hours in the studio recording and then spent another 30 minutes looking for my car because I’ve forgotten where i parked it earlier that day when it was still day light.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

I love the vocal chain my producer Liam uses on my vocal, it always makes me feel super confident when laying down vocals in the studio.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

a) My Boots Made Me Do It (Its just so fun to sing and dance to)

b) Dodged a Bullet

c) Ashes

Who were the musicians who were on the track with you?

The musicians on this track were all studio musicians but the lead guitar and banjo parts were by Anthony Donato.

Was it a difficult song to write?

This song was actually written super quickly. I think because I was going through a breakup at the time it felt like an easy subject to write about. It was a form of therapy at the time.

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026/2027?

I have so much music planned for the coming months and into next year. I’m so excited for them to be heard. I’m planning 2 EP’s and an Album by the end of 2027 so stay tuned!

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My hometown in Camden NSW Australia

Family, community, coffee, horses, home.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026/2027?

I’ve loved my time in the UK so much. The country music fans here are just next level amazing! We’re well into planning more shows in 2027 in the UK/Europe. As soon as I can announce them I will, so go to toridarke.com, join the mailing list and be the first to know!

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

The audience have had fun, and that they tell their best mate about it.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I love my acoustic Gibson J45!

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

So I’m totally into the Game of Thrones books right now, so that’s the first that comes to mind. I’m not sure how we “Countryfy” that…but I’m willing to try!

How do you look after your voice?

Plenty of sleep, vocal warm-ups, recognizing exhaustion, and taking time off when necessary.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Leann Rimes, Shania Twain & The Dixie Chicks. They were all so influential throughout my career.

What makes Tori Darke happy and what makes you unhappy?

There’s nothing better than spending time with the people, and the animals, that you love. I’m a massive dog person and love every moment with mine. What makes me unhappy? After a gig when I’m exhausted and craving a McFlurry for a sugar hit and I go to the drive-through and they tell me they can’t make McFlurry’s right now…what’s up with that?
