Irish singer, songwriter and actress Yasmina Cherelle is an artist whose music blends soulful pop with emotional storytelling. Splitting her time between London, Los Angeles and Dublin, she brings together her background in music, dance and acting to create songs that celebrate individuality, empowerment and emotional honesty.
What is your earliest musical memory?
One of my earliest musical memories is singing on the bus for the passengers since I was three, I’d stand at the front and sing for everyone and apparently people would clap at the end my mum tells me.
When did you begin songwriting?
I started writing songs at around age ten, it came naturally to me and I found it fun and comforting.
What was the inspiration/story behind “Liberate Me”?
“Liberate Me” is ultimately about empowerment, freeing yourself from anything that has been holding you back, and trusting your intuition. I wanted it to feel uplifting, strong and inspiring.
Where did you record the track and who produced it?
“Liberate Me” was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Wayne Wilkins, and I recorded the vocals in my little home studio.
Any memorable stories from the recording sessions?
I recorded a few different melodies for some sections to explore ideas, but chose the first ideas for most of them. I really wanted it to be the best it could be, and found that the more I trusted myself the better the ideas started flowing.
Particular instruments/microphones/equipment?
I recorded my vocals using my Neumann U87, which I really love!
Which tracks hear you at your happiest, angriest and most reflective?
I’d say Liberate Me hears me at my most enlightened, confident and excited.
Was it a difficult song to write?
It wasn’t difficult, it came to me quite naturally and it felt cathartic and right, it felt very healing and authentic.
Further releases planned for 2026/2027?
Yes! I have more original music planned and I’m really excited to share what I’ve been working on. I don’t want to give too much away just yet! But one song has a unique cultural blend with a mystical element.
Hometown and describe it in five words?
I grew up in Dublin. Creative, warm, vibrant, musical and spirited.
Live dates planned in UK/Europe?
Yes, I’m planning more live shows in London and Dublin, with further dates to be announced. There should be a cool one in Dublin this December which I’ll confirm on my Instagram.
Two things you hope to achieve once you’ve left the stage?
I want people to have felt uplifted, comforted, and joyful, and I want to feel joyful too.
Favoured stage equipment?
A great microphone and a really good in-ear monitoring system are hugely important to me, particularly because I love being able to completely lose myself in the performance while still hearing everything clearly.
Film adaptation of a novel?
I’d actually have to bend the rules slightly with this one! I tend to connect more with memoirs and true stories than novels. I’ve been reading Britney Spears’ The Woman in Me, and as someone who grew up loving her music, I’d love to create music around her story.
How do you look after your voice?
Lots of water, vocal warm-ups, steam, rest when I can, and trying not to overuse my voice for example speaking over loud environments.
Musical influences/recommendations?
Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are some of my biggest influences. I love powerful expressive vocals and performances that move me.
What makes Yasmina Cherelle happy/unhappy?
Music, performing, creating, human connection, self-expression and helping others make me happy. Cruelty, injustice, people suffering or being treated badly make me unhappy.
