The Tom Browne Band are a lively four-piece from Guildford, Surrey who have recently released their new single ‘Regardless’ which is taken from the release of the band’s new EP which will be released in October/November this year.

To celebrate the new song, TTBB arranged a live performance on a chilly evening at the pub/venue The Islington to showcase tracks from the EP. Taking to the stage, lead singer and acoustic guitarist Kiera Browne introduced the band and named all of the members in a friendly manner before kicking into the quirky ‘Mr Oklahoma’. The electric guitar riffs by Tom Wells were melodic and the rhythm section of Leon Wayland (bass) and Josh Brown (drums) was full sounding throughout.
‘Grey’ was the first song they released as a band in 2015 and it has a really musical chug like a train moving along the track with Kiera’s guitar creating an upbeat bright style. They gel very well onstage with no one trying to outdo each other or dominate with their egos which is fantastic to see and hear.
In addition to the EP, we were treated to a selection of new material with the pleasant ‘Butterflies’ and the purposeful ‘Down To Earth’ which would be perfect on a romantic comedy film soundtrack .
Couldn’t you just picture a poster of Hugh Grant standing under a ‘Richard Curtis Film’ banner and the title ‘Down To Earth’ in big writing? It would be a great theme for that film but anyway.
‘Regardless’ is an incredibly personal song for its writer Josh and knowing this, the band allow the lyrics to be at the forefront to really engage the listener. It really works with Kiera’s lead vocal and Josh’s hypnotic drums whilst Leon maintains a steady groove.
Closing track ‘Red Dress’ was a sassy modern country number that sounded like it had been written for Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert. I wouldn’t be surprised if both of those artists are influences of TTBB especially since it is similar to Underwood’s ‘Before He Cheats’ and Lambert’s ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ from a song subject point of view.
The crowd increased in size when they started to play this and it was clear that it was a crowd favourite which was fantastic to see as it is an incredibly strong song. Definitely one that should be recorded and released.
In conclusion, The Tom Browne Band have a fresh country blues sound that respects their musical influences but doesn’t carbon-copy them. In particular, the new material is catchy and quite radio-friendly which puts them on a strong music path. We at JLTT cannot wait for their set at #Blogtober which is curated by Just Listen To This on Friday 21st October 2016 at The Finsbury, London, United Kingdom.
