Alexander Armstrong New Album and 2016 UK Tour Announcement
Alexander Armstrong Makes Chart History As The First Ever Comedian To Score #1 In The Classical Album Charts
Sells More Copies In First Week Of Release Than Andrea Bocelli!
He is revered by millions for his TV work on shows such as Pointless, now comedian and entertainer Alexander Armstrong adds another string to his bow – that of chart topping recording artist!
Alexander, who released his debut album A Year Of Songs on 6th November on East West Records, has beaten the likes of classical heavyweights Andrea Bocelli, André Rieu and Nigel Kennedy to land the coveted No.1 position on the Classical Album Chart. The album also hit No 6 on the UK Official Albums Chart beating global superstars such as Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.
Alexander said, “This has been an incredibly exciting week. Singing has been my first love all through my life ever since I was a chorister as a small boy. Returning to music this year after a twenty year sabbatical has been a profoundly uplifting experience for me. And now to see the album doing so well is astonishing”.
A Year Of Songs showcases Armstrong’s stunning baritone voice. A collection of lavishly orchestrated songs produced by Grammy award winning producer Simon Franglen; some traditional, some more modern, but all of them of special significance to him. Familiar classics include “Summertime”, Gershwin’s evergreen standard from “Porgy and Bess”, to “Hushabye Mountain” from “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, and “Stranger In Paradise”.
