Liz Stringer Announces New Album And Releases New Music Video

Today, venerated Australian singer-songwriter Liz Stringer announces her new album The Second High, and releases the video for the title track. Recorded at Iguana Studios in Brixton with Grammy nominated/Ivor Novello Award-winning producer Beni Giles (Lianna La Havas, Oscar Jerome), a decision which saw her move permanently to London to develop her career in the UK, The Second High, out 28th March 2025 ,heralds a new beginning for Stringer. Liz Stringer is also joining celebrated musician and songwriter Emily Barker on a UK and European tour in January and February. See full dates here
Punctuated by piano-driven grooves and meditations, ‘The Second High’ is a powerful embodiment of lessons learned, and a continuation of the exciting development of her sound demonstrated in last year’s single, ‘Coming Home’. As warbly chords give way to the staccato bass that drives the track, we see Stringer’s 90s influences and soulful vocals front and center. The song’s striking video shows Liz performing with dancers that echo the strive to be present and fight the demons which plague us.
On the inspiration behind the track and the album’s title, Stringer bravely shares, “The Second High is a reminder to myself to appreciate what I have and to not sacrifice the present moment by indulging the compulsion to want, immediately and without delay, whatever is coming next. The phrase refers to the feeling of the first hit, or the first drink, which addicts and alcoholics chase by consuming more and more, which is ultimately a losing game. I’ll be nine years sober by the end of this year and the main vein of the song is about reiterating to myself how much better my life is without it, while understanding that those proclivities to want more and more, and to escape from myself, are still very much alive inside me. And in all of us, to some extent. The grass is always greener, the neighbours always happier. I’m trying to savour what’s right in front of me, right now.”
Sonically and energetically, The Second High is unlike anything Stringer has delivered before. While The Second High maintains the rich imagery and stunning, gut-punch vocals and virtuosic guitar playing that Stringer is known for, her vast songwriting range shows clearer than ever.
