Musical collective LIM releases the LIM Fantasy of Companionship Legacy album via Signum Records.
This orchestral works is brought together across two discs, celebrating music, science, technology, and human connection.
The two-disc collection also released in visual ‘zoetrope’ vinyl, presents the complete evolution of the masterwork composed, orchestrated, and arranged by Manu Martin, who crafted the score alongside LIM Trilogy creators Susan Lim and Christina Teenz Tan. Working closely with Lim and Tan, Martin has served as the composer, orchestrator, and arranger not only for LIM Fantasy of Companionship, but across all works comprising the expansive LIM Trilogy.
The centerpiece of this journey is the 33-minute orchestral tour de force, LIM Fantasy of Companionship for Piano and Orchestra, which also serves as the complete soundtrack for the multi-award-winning 33-minute animated film created by Samudra Kajal Saikia and his team. Saikia is also the visual visionary behind the project, having created the cover art for this album as well as all official artwork across the entire LIM Trilogy. In an innovative fusion of genres, 2 of the 19 tracks within the LIM Fantasy of Companionship for Piano and Orchestra feature LIM’s dedicated rock band, showcasing Jérôme Buigues on electric guitar, Frédéric Rivière on bass, and Jean-Luc Véran on drums.
The orchestral work originated at Abbey Road Studio One in 2019, where it was recorded by legendary pianist Tedd Joselson, the London Symphony Orchestra, and London Voices, conducted by Arthur Fagen and featuring anchor vocals by Matthieu Eymard, and released on Signum Records in 2021. For all subsequent recordings and the UK Premiere with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (2024), acclaimed maestro Robert Ziegler took up the podium.
The work’s landmark global concert history includes three sold-out premieres:
• World Premiere (2023): Held at Singapore’s Esplanade Concert Hall, performed by the Musicians’ Initiative and conducted by Alvin Arumugam.
• UK Premiere (2024): Pianist Mark Bebbington took the baton alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Robert Ziegler.
• US Premiere (2025): Performed in Berkeley, California, with the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (UCBSO) under the baton of UCBSO Music Director David Milnes.
The Legacy Edition documents the piece’s rich evolutionary spin-offs:
• Chamber Music Expansion: The LIM Fantasy of Companionship Suite for Piano, Flute, and Strings, recorded at St John’s Smith Square and premiered at St Giles’ Cripplegate, performed by Mark Bebbington and principals of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
• Symphonic Song Trilogy: Three stand-alone vocal pieces drawn directly from the LIM Fantasy- Timeless, Boy Scientist, and Teleportation – featuring powerhouse vocalist Tom Ball performing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Voices, conducted by Robert Ziegler.
Serving as the emotional anchor and narrative climax of LIM Fantasy, the focal track “Teleportation” is presented on this album in three distinct, curated versions:
1. Main Vocal Version: The definitive symphonic vocal performance by Tom Ball with the RPO and London Voices, conducted by Robert Ziegler.
2. Original 2019 Orchestral Version: The Abbey Road master recording featuring anchor vocals by Matthieu Eymard alongside Tedd Joselson and the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fagen.
3. Composer Version: A multilingual interpretation arranged and performed in the Assamese language by composer Joi Barua.
The orchestral works, rock instrumentation, and featured symphonic songs were captured at Abbey Road Studios by recording engineers Stéphane Reichart and Simon Rhodes, mixed by Jérôme Buigues and Simon Rhodes, and mastered at Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi.
