The 80s pop act return, with new material and here are the details we have…
80’s pop-chart legends, Red Box, are back! Stepping boldly into 2019 with their exhilarating fresh new single, ‘This Is What We Came For’, taken from the highly anticipated forthcoming studio album, ‘Chase The Setting Sun’, this is Red Box at their absolute best. From the moment the single was unleashed, it’s been rapidly garnering national radio interest, with Radio 2 plays from Graham Norton and Paul O’Grady. A duo in the 1980s, comprising of Simon Toulson-Clarke and Julian Close, their new music sees the original protagonist, Simon, still in the driving seat, alongside a group of talented friends; whilst Julian steps out of the limelight and into the role of band manager. The original line-up…simply re-shuffled.
‘This Is What We Came For’ is Red Box at their finest. Fresh, buoyant and individual, the song continues the band’s legacy of well-crafted intelligent pop. Simon describes it as ‘a timely reminder, at a moment when we are all concerned about our economic future, that the best things in life are free. ‘This is What We Came For’ is a clarion call to strip out what is unimportant in our lives and to live for what really matters’.

Red Box are best remembered for their 1985 chart hit ‘Lean On Me’, which stayed at No3 in the UK Top 40 for over a month, became the ‘most played track on UK radio’ in 1985 (even beating Madonna’s ‘Into The Groove’), and scooped a Brit Award nomination for Best video.
Their follow-up single, ‘For America’ (1986) outsold ‘Lean on Me’ worldwide, reaching number 1 in seven countries and the Top 10 in almost every other territory, including the UK, where it spent twelve weeks on the chart, peaking at No9. In the same year, the band released their ambitious and eclectic debut album, ‘The Circle and the Square’. The album was notable for introducing world flavours into the pop milieu and has since become a cult album. The band released follow-up albums ‘Motive’ and ‘Plenty’.
In 2017, Red Box signed with industry veteran, Ian Ramage, at BMG Music Rights, a valued relationship empowering the band’s most important album to date, ‘Chase The Setting Sun’, which is due for release in early 2019. The band will tour the UK and Europe, where they continue to enjoy a strong and loyal following.
The much-anticipated album completes a full circle for the band’s highly individual sound with echoes of their past, their present and their future cast into the melting pot to form music that is timeless. ‘This Is What We Came For’ is the first delicious appetizer of that highly anticipated album – past, present and future Red Box fans, enjoy!
