Etham
Cold Love (Single)
(Independent)
Etham is an 18 year-old multi-instrumentalist from London in the United Kingdom and he hasn’t put out any music online for three years. He has now returned with the first track from his new release ‘Neo-Romance’ which is entitled ‘Cold Love’. He has been described as ‘Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran-esque but with more energy’ and I can understand that statement but when I listened to his new single, I didn’t hear hear those comparisons. Aspects of the song are very much drenched in hip-hop but the subtle percussion gives it a unique soul vibe.
The lead vocals are strong and the blistering electric guitar solo really works but I do find the track’s lyrics a tad repetitive. If you enjoyed Plan B’s ‘Defamation of Strickland Banks’ album or if you are partial to the sub genre known as neo-soul, then Etham may be right up your street. This guy does have a bright future ahead of him as his style is popular in the mainstream pop market and if the rest of ‘Neo-Romance’ is as high-quality as ‘Cold Love’ then this will not be the last time you hear the name Etham in your musical travels.
