Some of my favourite albums – from The Doors’ Strange Days onwards – pretty much fit that description and this collection is joining them. Matlock is aware of the past but doesn’t live there – most of this record is new or recent material, the one version included is an inspired choice.

Recorded at Sear Sound in Manhattan, this NY crew, this follow-up album to Energy Harrison is drummer, Zach Zunis plays guitar, Jim Alfredson mans the keys and Anthony Kane is on harp. Some guests appear hear and there. The act records in one room, for that intimate/organic feel.
