Pete Kosanovich has released a new album called ‘Shadows Of The Night’ and we at JLTT were intrigued and wanted to learn more form the man himself:

Your new album ‘Shadows Of The Night’ is out now. How did you want to approach the making of this album?
In the beginning of 2023 I suddenly started writing a lot of songs and I had roughly 10 songs written by mid April. These songs were very much in the psychedelic rock style I love so that was my approach. By the end of the summer recording of the album was finished.
Could I please ask you the background behind the album title as it seems quite philosophical?
The album title is also a song on the album. The song ‘Shadows Of The Night’ is about a woman I dated for a while who had issues. In the song I described how she felt. The song title sounded good as an album title so I decided to call the album the same.
Where did you record the album and who produced it?
I recorded the album in my home studio and I produced the album. Everything on the album I did myself.
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
During the recording of the single ‘They Are For Real’ I was overdubbing a floor tom and tambourine late at night and my neighbour stood outside my home studio knocking on my window complaining about the noise. I was the middle of a take so I ignored him, finished the take and that ended up being the take I used on the single. It was funny because the guy was staring at me thinking ‘What the hell is this guy doing?’.

One of the tracks on the album is ‘Games We Play’ . What was the story/inspiration behind that song?
The song is about men and women playing games in relationships.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My hometown is the city of Belgrade, Serbia where I was born. In five words it’s a place ‘Very close to my heart’.
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals etc?
I am in my element with a just a great acoustic guitar in my hands on stage. I currently love playing my vintage Yamaha FG-180.
Who created the album artwork?
My seven year old son Niko drew it. It’s a guitar with flowers growing out of it. I thought it was great so i used it as an album cover. He’s a talented little man.
How do you look after your voice?
I wouldn’t say I look after it but I certainly don’t abuse it. I don’t smoke and I exercise weekly.
What are your plans for 2024 and do you plan to support the new album with another tour of the UK and Europe at all?
Me and my musician friend Dave Renegade were discussing touring recently so its certainly possible it will happen.
Do you have a specific process when it comes to songwriting such as lyrics before melody for example?
I let the songs come to me naturally. I never plan anything when I write. I just pick up the guitar and lyrics and music come to me at once. It’s like magic really.
What makes Pete Kosanovich happy and what makes you unhappy?
Spending quality time with my son Niko makes me happy. Being surrounded by negative and disrespectful people makes me unhappy so I avoid them.
