Vocalist Tim Owens of Earth Wind & Fire Experience Feat Al McKay kindly chatted to us as the band gears up for their appearance on Sunday 9th June 2024 at Uptown Festival in Earlham Park, Norwich, United Kingdom:

Al McKay’s Earth, Wind and Fire Experience will be performing at Uptown Festival on Sunday 9th June 2024 in Earlham Park, Norwich, United Kingdom. How are you and the band feeling about the show and have you performed in Norwich before?

We are excited to perform here. I don’t remember performing in Norwich specifically, but we always enjoy the UK audiences.

 Given the vast back catalogue, is it difficult picking a setlist? Does the band have a specific song selection process?

We try to do all the hits. That way we don’t miss anyone’s favorite. Of course, it depends on the specific show time allocated for us. With a shorter time limit we will always prioritize the most popular hits.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

The vocal section uses the industry standard, Shure Beta 58 wireless. I’m sure each instrumentalists has their own brand preferences of instruments.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

I currently reside in Dallas, Texas.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I hope to always communicate a message, and to touch someone’s life in a lasting way.

What are some of your favourite songs to perform personally?

“That’s The Way of The World”, “Fantasy” and “Shining Star”

 Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

 Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Nat “King” Cole, Sting, The Clark Sisters

How do you look after your voice?

I try to get plenty of rest, avoid cigarette smoke, drink warm liquids, and warm up before every show.

Do you have any other music projects/ventures yourself alongside your work in Al McKay’s Earth, Wind and Fire Experience?

I have an EP titled, “Real Life”, a duet single with DeVere Duckett (also with EW&F Experience) titled, “Cherish The Time” by duo group, Nóvəl.

1992 Atlantic Records CD release, “I Just Wanna Love You” and many featured vocals on various artist’s releases.

What makes Tim Owens happy and what makes you unhappy?

Making people smile and be a little more enlightened through music, conversation or an unforgettable experience makes me happy.
