SAINTS AMONG US Talk New Single, Their Hometown And More

SAINTS AMONG US

Rising Brit alt-rockers SAINTS AMONG US continue their climb with the release of their deeply engrossing new single, ‘Hunger’, which is out now. We caught up with the band to discuss the track, their hometown and more:

Who is in Saints Among Us, what do they play and how did you meet?

Saints Among Us consists of myself (Maddy) as the frontwoman, Adam on drums, Tom on rhythm guitar, Brad on lead guitar, and Rahmaal on bass. Adam and Brad have known each other since birth, while I joined after meeting Adam in college. Rahmaal came into the fold after connecting with the band at university, and Tom joined later through Brad.

When did you begin songwriting?

I started songwriting around my school years. I actually wrote our song Home for my music exam at school, and it has since blossomed into what we play live now. It’s one of our favourite songs to perform!

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory is listening to music with my dad. We bonded over bands like The Killers and went to loads of gigs together.

You have your new single ‘Hunger’ which is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?

Hunger is inspired by feelings of longing and striving for something that seems out of reach. It reflects a hunger for more—whether it’s for success, love, or meaning in life. The song also draws on the art of kintsugi, where broken pieces are mended with gold, symbolising beauty in imperfection and growth through struggle.

The single is accompanied by an official lyric video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

We haven’t released the official music video for Hunger yet. The video we’re releasing is a lyric video featuring live footage from our single release show at Sidney and Matilda. Let’s just say there might be something bigger in the works for next year—but that’s all we can say for now!

Where did you record the track and who produced it?

We had the pleasure of recording Hunger with Ross Dore from Air Drawn Dagger. It was a great experience, working closely to create the sound we were looking for.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

All I’m gonna say is “Spanish swing.” That moment definitely stands out from the recording sessions.

Do you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for your music?

The guitarists are enjoying using the Quad Cortex at the minute. It’s been great for experimenting with different sounds, and for Hunger, it really helped capture the darker, atmospheric tones we were after.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

                  A) Happiest: Home

                  B) Angriest: Ashes to Ashes

                  C) Most Reflective: Hunger

                  Who created/designed the single artwork?

The artwork for Hunger was a DIY project. We purchased a bust, painted it with gold cracks, and then our talented friend at Konjr Productions helped us capture the final image.

Was it a difficult song to write?

No, it wasn’t difficult at all. We decided to avoid putting pressure on ourselves like we’ve done before, and it ended up flowing really naturally.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

We hope we’ve connected with the audience and made them feel something genuine, and that we’ve given it our all on stage. We also want people to walk away feeling like they were part of something bigger.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

My Shure in-ear monitors are a game-changer. I’ve been using them for years, and they make a huge difference, particularly with Adam being so loud! They give me the freedom to perform without losing track of the sound.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Our hometown is Doncaster, and if we had to describe it in five words, we’d say:

                            Industrial, proud, passionate, real, underrated.

It’s got its own charm, and we wouldn’t want to be from anywhere else

How do you look after your voice?

To look after my voice, I make sure to warm up every time I sing, stay hydrated, and rest when needed. Proper vocal care is essential, and it helps me maintain vocal health and performance quality.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

If we had the chance to write the score for a film adaptation, it would definitely be The Lord of the Rings. We all absolutely love it—there’s just something about the epic scale, the rich characters, and the incredible journey that really resonates with us. The music would be a mix of big, powerful moments and intimate, emotional ones, just like the story. We can totally imagine some haunting, atmospheric songs for the Shire, and then building up to huge tracks for the battle scenes.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

We’re inspired by bands like Spiritbox, Holding Absence, Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, and CHVRCHES. If you’re looking for new music, I recommend checking out Night Thieves!

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2024/2025?

Yes! We’re excited to be supporting Skarlett Riot at Corporation in Sheffield on February 6, 2025, and we’re also planning to play more live shows throughout the UK.

Do you have any future music releases planned for 2025?

2025 is going to be a big year for us. We’re already working on some new tracks that continue the journey we started with ‘Hunger.’ Can’t wait for everyone to hear what’s next!

What makes Saints Among Us happy and what makes you unhappy?

We’re happiest when we’re playing music together and connecting with our fans. We’re unhappy when we feel disconnected from our creativity or when we’re not being true to ourselves.
