Australian band Boy & Bear will release their new album ‘Tripping Over Time’ on Friday 12th December 2025. We spoke to Tim Hart about the new record and more:

Who is in Boy & Bear, how did you meet and what do you play?

There are five of us. A few of us met at university. Dave Hosking plays Guitar and sings,
Killian plays guitar and sings, Jon plays Keys and sings, Dave S plays bass and sings and I
(Tim) play the drums and sing.

What is your earliest musical memory?

My earliest musical memory is watching my mum play piano at the local church we went to.

When did you begin songwriting?

This is different for all of us. I started writing when I was 16. And I’m sure the songs were
rubbish.

You have your new album ‘Tripping Over Time’ released on 12th December 2025. How did you want to approach the making of the album?

We wanted to approach this album in the same way we always do. Which is, take whatever we are finding creatively inspiring at the moment and make songs that include those elements. Essentially just to have fun and see what happened.

Where did you record the album and who produced it?

We recorded the album between LA and Sydney with producer Justin Stanley.
Predominately though it was made in our newly built studio in Sydney.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

We had a guitar that had a bridge added to it to make it sound like a sitar. Our version of that same Beatles era. I tried to get this sound onto so many of the songs but in the end it was a fruitless pursuit as I don’t think it features at all.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

We have lots of lovely gear but to be honest that wasn’t the focus, the focus in general was
on performances and keeping the record feeling alive and human.

Which of your new album tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

A. Tripping over time B. Sleep talking C. Ancestors

Was it a difficult album to write?

Writing a record is a process and of course is not easy but I’d never describe it as a difficult thing. Its fun and its challenging and takes time but we love it.

Who designed the album artwork?

Jeremy Koren (Grey Ghost). An incredibly talented Australian designer.

Does the album’s title have any significance/special meaning?

It refers to the passage of time in life and the cyclical nature of our lives. That for us feels
fairly significant.

One of your tracks is the title track single. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

This song feels really good. It’s about getting older and coming to terms with life and being ok with where you’re at.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

This was the brain child of Jeremy Koren the Aussie designer. It encapsulates our collective love of film and nostalgia and was a lot of fun to make

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Our home town is Sydney. 5 words – Most beautiful city we know.

How do you look after your voices?

To be honest we don’t do a great job of this. Any tips?

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2025/2026?

We start out UK EURO tour on FEB 26 and we’ll be around for 3 weeks.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I hope we’ve made people’s lives a little more pleasant with the addition of our music.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I love Ludwig drum kits and AGOP cymbals and they make me feel happy on stage.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

It is Of human Bondage by Somerset Maugham. Because the novel is melancholic and funny and Dark and Introspective and we’d do a great job on the score.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Wilco, the Beatles. No recommendations just love what you love music wise. You don’t have to follow trends.

What makes Boy & Bear happy and what makes you unhappy?

We’re happy when we get to create. We’re unhappy when Australia loses at the cricke
