UK heavy hitters Knocked For Six return with their most personal release to date, unleashing the brand-new single and video, Faithbreaker, which is out now. We spoke to them here:
Knocked for Six is Will Zakk on vocals, Harry Barratt on drums, Charlie Day and Joe Pitcher on guitar and Chris Day on the bass. So we’ve all been playing music for the past probably 15 years now. We studied music together at college and had separate bands for a while, then this band slowly came together until about 6/7 months ago, when the band as we know took its final form. That’s when we really became K46.
– Harry
What is your earliest musical memory?
Probably when we were about 14, my family were hanging out with Charlie’s family, all getting p***** up. Charlie came out on the flat roof with a little amp and his guitar, started shredding licks. Those p*** heads sure did love it.
– Harry
When did you begin songwriting?
Umm probably about 16ish I reckon, started out writing kinda Lamb of God / Iron maiden rip offs.
You have your new single ‘Faithbreaker’ which is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?
Depression, it’s not a happy song at all but it’s as real as I could make it – Will
Where did you record the track and who produced it?
So Charlie, Chris and I did our parts at my house, Joe and Will did their parts at Will’s house and Will is our producer!
– Harry
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
Probably the ZA – Will
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
The guitars are all simulated amps using the STL Will Putney suite using 3sigma audio IRs, the bass tone is Bassforge Hellraiser from JST and I tracked my vocals on a Shure SM7b (but I shan’t share anymore as a magician never shares his secrets) – Will
Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
Angriest – Serpahim Blood
Happiest – we haven’t written yet (and probably never will)
Reflective – a new song we are working on that’s gonna be featuring a pretty awesome vocalist, so you have that to look forward to. – Will
Was it a difficult song to write?
Faithbreaker wasn’t particularly difficult to write, a lot of our tracks sort of flow and write themselves. – Will
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
We’re from the Colchester/Clacton area and Ipswich and I’d say Clacton is “the armpit of the country.” And like your own armpit you can’t help but take a swift inhale, momentarily admiring your own musk. Colchester however, Colchester is a “pleasant with a dope scene!”
– Harry
Ipswich massive UPPA TOWEN – Will
How do you look after your voices?
I grab Will by the throat and vigorously massage his neck like a meat tenderiser.
– Harry
Pretty much what he said… but no I usually drink a lot of tea and use these beautiful things called Vocalzones – Will
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026?
Yes we’ve got Many UK dates, find them on our socials. (Instagram is our main base)
– Harry
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
An out of breath crowd and a clean pair of pants.
– Harry
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
Yes, me. I love the microphones.
– Harry
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
It would have to be House Of Leaves for me because that s*** is absolutely insane – Will
Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026?
Plenty that we can’t announce yet but yes we have a lot already recorded and ready to go – Will
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
Marcus Bridge from Northlane, not just as a vocalist but as a person whose values align very closely to mine and probably Chris from Like Moths To Flames! – Will
The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?
Harry did, the man is a bit of a mastermind when it comes to film, The idea of the frayed rope was something that came quite late into the process and it was suggested by Joe as an idea for the art work! – Will
Happy? Playing shows. Not happy?…not playing shows.
Harry
