Kind Villain’s current single ‘I’m A Little Off’ is forging a powerful personal connection with an audience of fans who connect with its first-person reflection of dealing with neurodivergency. We spoke to him here:

What is your earliest musical memory?

I remember jumping around on the couch as my Dad played “Hells Bells” by ACDC when I was a toddler, and I learned I could sing from playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band when I was in elementary school, my friends and I would all swap instruments and play the game after school and that’s where it all began lol

When did you begin songwriting?

When I was in elementary school I used to freestyle random lines and lyrics whenever I heard instrumental music, and the moment someone walked by I would stop, and then in middle school I started writing full songs when I learned guitar.

You have released your new single ‘I’m A Little Off’. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

My everyday life was a big inspiration. I tell people I feel more comfortable on stage then I do shopping at the grocery store, I feel like an alien in a human body sometimes. My producer Paul and I had conversations about feeling off and we both connected on the feeling in different ways and that led to the song being made. As someone who is neurodivergent I wanted an anthem for those people and to encourage them to embrace who they are.

Where did you record the track and who produced it?

The song was produced by Paul Trust and I recorded it in his personal studio in Delray Beach Florida USA.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Yeah, every time I messed up Paul would look at me and say something like “it’s supposed to be a little off not a lot off” lol. When we record background vocals for the chorus to make it sound like a crowd we will do voice impressions of different people, and I love Billy Idol so I’ll channel my inner Billy and try to make it sound like he’s on the background vocals. It never works lol but the sound is cool.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

So the entire song was recorded using vintage Focusrite gear and mixed using analog eqs and compressors, we also blend in the snare sounds from Paul’s Morgan Wallen songs that he did years ago for the drums.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

Happiest is probably Dancing As The World Burns because its an upbeat song of spreading joy in times when it feels like the world’s ending,

My most angry and sad song is probably One More Night as I had just gone through a painful breakup at the time and I hated the way things went.

My most reflective song is I’m A Little Off because I reflected on many moments of my life where I felt out of place and I found a piece of myself I never knew existed while recording the vocals.

Who were the musicians who were on the song with you?

Paul Trust and Dallas Marlow

Was it a difficult song to write?

No it came honestly and easy

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

I live just outside of Tampa Florida in the United States and if I had to describe it in five words

Artsy, Vintage, Tropical, Supportive, Open Minded

What two pieces of advice do you have for a novice musician?

Be honest and yourself in everything you do. Learn to go with the flow and be open minded because being stuck on small things can drain you mentally.

Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2026?

Coming soon Summer and Fall 2026 its gonna be awesome UK!!!!!

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I hope I inspire others to be bold in who they are and that I’m able to make them feel happy and for a moment they forget about the outside world.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

I love playing bass onstage, specifically a Dean Jazz Bass and a Fender Precision Bass that I’ve played for years. I love my KSM9 microphone as I love its tone, and I use a megaphone onstage that always adds a little spice to the show.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

Probably the Hunger Games as I was a die hard fan of those books before they were films so in another universe or if I make a time machine I would do those books.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

This list would go on forever lol

Linkin Park is the reason I started making music

Green Day taught me how to be bold

Ed Sheeran got me into songwriting

Prince is incredible (he was one of the inspirations for Dancing As The World Burns)

I learned to write by listening to hip hop and rap from local rappers in my hometown

Bring Me The Horizon, Yungblud, Oasis, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Billie Eillish, SELF (the band), Panic! At The Disco, Lenny Kravitz, and I was really influenced by early 2000’s rock. I love everything, all genres, I’m gonna stop this list for time lol.

The single is accompanied by an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video and who directed it?

Lindsay Winter directed and Snipe The Sniper filmed it in Miami Florida USA. The idea was since the song was about me being a little off and those lyrics are so personal I wanted to make them the center of the video so people could feel the message behind the song and see this person who is learning to embrace the faults that he has. Hopefully it will inspire others to love themselves. That is the goal 🙂

Do you have any further new music releases planned for this year?

Yes I have a few songs that I’m really hyped to show the world this year.

What makes Kind Villain happy and what makes you unhappy?

I’m happy when I see love and positivity, this world needs more of that. I’m unhappy when I see hate and evil especially for the way that someone was born.
