 Roseanna Brown is a British-Irish singer-songwriter and actor whose work spans music, film, and television. As Roseanna she has released her latest single ‘Awake’ in tandem with her latest big screen role in the feature film Pressure, where she stars alongside Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon and Damian Lewis.

 

What is your earliest musical memory?

Ooo that’s a hard one. Apart from nursery rhymes, it would be songs of my Aunt – she’s the singer Dana, and my dad’s songs too. Music was always playing in our house, with so many instruments around, so it was always around us.

 

When did you begin songwriting?

I started when I was 14/15. I remember wanting to learn the guitar, so I taught myself the chords; I still don’t know how I learned to play guitar haha, and that’s when I started writing about my life

 

 Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

a) Happiest is probably ‘Yes’, which isn’t actually out yet, but for one that is out, it would be Awake.

b) Help Me came from a place where I was angry and sad.

c) Reflective would be my track Alive.

 

One of your tracks is the new single ‘Awake’ which is out now. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

Awake was a song that came out of a 21-day songwriting challenge I set myself: 21 songs, 21 days, fully demoed by the end of each day. Awake was day 18. I was feeling throwback vibes, listening to Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran, KT Tunstall, and I started playing the guitar and thought, I’ve never done a song like this. Even when I brought it to Zach to co-produce, he was like, ‘okaayyy, this is different for you’, which honestly made me love it even more.

It’s about a simple but well-known, exciting feeling: that person you just can’t get out of your head. Daydreaming about them is almost better than actually dreaming, at least when you’re awake you know you’re going to see them again.

 

Where did you record the song and who produced it?

I recorded it here in LA. I taught myself to produce last year so I could get a better idea of my sound and what I want. I brought that produced demo to my co-producer Zach Paradis, who brought it even more to life.

 

Was it a difficult song to write?

Honestly, not really, and I documented the entire process because I was doing 21 songs in 21 days. I surprised myself by how easily the song came out of me.

 

Do you have any further music releases planned for 2026/2027?

Yes! In fact, my next release is a song called Yes, which I am very excited about. There are about 4 songs I’m very excited to release. I’m also still writing; it always shows the songs I truly love and connect to.

 

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

My hometown is Windsor, Berkshire. Five words I would say are:

Royal, historic, bustling, green & Riverside

 

How do you look after your voice?

I actually studied classical music and singing at Royal Holloway. I always do vocal warm-ups, and because of my training I sing with proper vocal placement, like it’s second nature to me. Also things like room temperature water, staying hydrated and not putting strain on my voice, especially if I’m ill!

 

Do you have any UK/European dates planned 2026/27?

I want to come over next year and do some stripped-back live gigs; it would be so fun to do, so that’s on my list!

 

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

I always want to be proud of what I’ve done, and to have a lasting impact in a good way that can be remembered and hopefully bring good to people.

 

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Live, I play my Ovation while singing, and I still love my guitar and the sound of the Ovation; however, lately I’ve really been enjoying focusing just on singing without playing and I’m able to give it so much more. I would LOVE to have a collection of microphones. There are so many great ones, and different mics suit live versus recording settings. I’ve had more chance to experiment with recording mics than live ones, so it would be a dream to go through a huge selection and figure out what works best for me Live.

Recording: I have the Astin Origin at the moment. I’ve used the TLM 103 and the Telefunken ELA M 251E, and wow, I loved the Telefunken. That would be a dream mic to own.

 

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

Oh, this is a great question. I was really excited about Fourth Wing; I would love to act in and write for that. That would be amazing.

I studied a lot of film music and am in awe of so many composers and the feel they bring to films that just brings it to the next level.

 

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

This is broad, cos I love so much music. I pull from classical, pop, rock etc. I love bringing all those elements in. I love Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion, Coldplay, Raye, Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, Hozier, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, The 1975, YUNGBLUD (he is incredible) – haha, the list could go on. I’m listening to a lot of ROLE MODEL if you haven’t heard of him.

 

What makes Roseanna happy and what makes you unhappy?

Staying true to myself makes me happy, and seeing people really love life and live at their best; there is a pure joy on people’s faces when they feel free in themselves and accepted in it.

Unhappy is when people are angry or upset with me. I don’t like it at all.

I could have just said puppies make me happy and no puppies make me unhappy, hahah. But that’s also true.
