She’s On Fire

The genre of vintage soul has always had a place in people’s hearts for years and there have been many success stories including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Plan B, John Legend and Mark Ronson to name but a few. Over time, it has become clear that The Netherlands has accepted vintage soul with open arms with one the major success stories being Caro Emerald. She has two albums to her name and in the United Kingdom went from playing her first London show at The Jazz Café in 2011 (capacity 420) to selling out The O2 Arena in 2014 (capacity 20,000).
I heard a song on the radio called ‘She’s On Fire’ and I couldn’t believe how groovy the song was. As the DJ didn’t say who it was, I did some investigating and found it was a gentleman by the name of Bo Saris. Born in Venlo, he was the winner of a Dutch talent show Idols. The chorus is so catchy it’s scary. ‘She’s like the candy that your daddy told you can’t touch’ is a lyric which I think everyone can relate to at some point in their life. He sells out shows in his native land and I get the feeling that he would be very impressive with a live band. I really appreciate the fact that he is not trying to sound exactly like his comtempories and I hope that he continues to release fresh sounding material. I have no doubt in my mind that in time this song has the potential to be as successful as Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’.
