Singer-songwriter and musician Julia Thomsen has released her single ‘Eternal Love’ which is an acoustic track with Strings Of Light’. We wanted to learn more and she chatted to us:
When did you begin songwriting and recording music?
I began composing music as a child and at the age of five wrote a song about the weather expressing my feeling of how each weather pattern would sound the rain wind snow hail and thunderstorms changing into beautiful sunshine.
What is your earliest musical memory?
An early musical memory that I remember vividly was playing classical duets with my father and playing at the Greenock music festival competition against my piano teacher and very good friend so you can imagine how nerve wracking that must have been. I was always excited for my music classes at school with a wonderful teacher Mr Walton who was both very funny and an incredible musician and composer.
You have released your latest single with Strings Of Light which is an acoustic guitar rendition of ‘Eternal Love’. How did you want to approach the making of the track?
Yes, indeed it has been an exciting collaboration with Lawrence Libert from Strings of Light as this is my first ever acoustic guitar release.
I had originally recorded the piece with piano and guitar about 10 years ago and knew that it could be created with different versions in mind. I have a love for the acoustic guitar sound especially in the latter years from meeting incredible guitarists around the world so was very keen to collaborate and see if they could visualise what I wanted to create and Lawrence took the main structure and theme of the piece and turned it into a beautiful version with using two lines like a duet.
Where did you record it and who produced it?
Recorded in a studio by Lawrence.
Do you have any further recordings or releases with Strings of Light planned?
Yes, I am hoping to release Walking In A Dream – Acoustic Guitar with Strings of Light originating from my piano composition.
Do you have any live plans for 2024 in the UK and Europe?
Not for now but watch this space as you never know.
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
One of them is to help as many people across the world with music in any way which I can and this to continue after retiring. Also, to win a Grammy award or platinum in the composer category.
Who created/designed the single artwork?
I did. it was taken at the beautiful vast beach in Le Touquet France during a wonderful family break where my husband took holidays there when he was a child. We wanted to bring the children back to see it.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
My current hometown is London. If I was to describe it in 5 words, it would exciting, inspirational, cultural, beautiful, enjoyable.
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Most probably Pride and Prejudice.
Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
“Pura Vida” makes me feel very happy and very focused. The Butterfly Dream and Saranghae.
Do you have any further music releases planned for 2024?
Yes, I have just released a beautiful new piano composition called “Sweet Aurora” celebrating our 20 years wedding anniversary. Also, I plan to release more this year.
What makes Julia Thomsen happy and what makes you unhappy?
First and foremost is being with my family and friends and then creating music. Simple things make me happy.
