Lo Lauren Talks New Single, Her Voice And More
Rising pop artist Lo Lauren has released her single ‘Before The Kiss’ and has a lot of exciting plans for 2025 including a debut EP release. We sat down with her to talk about the single, her voice and more:
When did you begin songwriting?
After years of doing performing arts, I wrote my first song at 17 and from then started doing sessions around London, writing for other people.
What is your earliest musical memory?
When I was a baby and I wouldn’t sleep at night, my dad would put on 80s music and dance around the living room!
Your single ‘Before The Kiss’ is out now. What was the inspiration/story behind the track?
My bestie was telling me about a moment she had with a guy where they were about to kiss at a party… so it’s a merge of that and many of my own situations lol. I was also obsessing over putting glitter on the lips so that inspired us visually.
In addition, you will release your debut EP ‘Wonderlust’ in 2025. How did you want to approach the making of the EP?
The focus was choosing songs that felt fun, feel good and like they reflected situations that me and my friends have been in; the exes, the flings, the could’ve beens!
Where did you record the EP and who produced it?
The EP was produced by andysocialclub and Slwmo & mainly recorded in Sleeper Sounds studios in London or in Copenhagen!
Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the EP recording sessions?
MANY. Me and my collaborators are all really close now so we’re constantly laughing and having fun. We went on a night out and then wrote a song about it the next day and I love it because it’s so real and really encompasses that feeling of loving your friends and just wanting to celebrate them.
Who was in the band on the EP and what did they play?
The producers Andy and Andreas, Chris Chordz and Carys Selvey played the majority of parts and instruments.
Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?
Synths are our go to – especially the Juno!!
Which of your new EP tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?
Happiest – before the kiss
Angriest – honestly none
Most reflective – it’s not out yet but THE BALLAD
What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?
1 – made people forget their woes and have an amazing time and 2 – sweated !!! If I’m not sweating by the end of the show I haven’t given it enough
Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?
Just a good wireless microphone so I can run around performing and not get tangled because I am very ditsy.
Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Rochester – nostalgic, quaint, historic, homely, boring (a bit. soz)
How do you look after your voice?
Always do vocal warm ups! Drink lots of honey & ginger and steam.
You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?
Verity by Colleen Hoover – it’s very female focused with opportunities to delve into different emotions and has an amazing twist !
Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?
Sonically the 2010s golden era of pop mixed with 80s is a big influence for me. Then vocal performance wise I love Gwen Stefani and Cindy Lauper.
Do you have any live dates planned in the UK/Europe in 2025?
We’re currently working that out at the moment!
What makes Lo Lauren happy and what makes you unhappy?
Eating makes me happy, being hungry makes me very mad.
Your latest single ‘Before The Kiss’ has been used in the trailer for the upcoming ‘Sweethearts’. How did that opportunity arise? Do you plans to see the film with family and friends to celebrate?
Yesss it was the coolest most unexpected thing! The director heard it on a Spotify playlist and reached out asking to use it in the trailer – and within a week it was out! Yes it was out on Sky in December 2024 so will defo had a watching party!
