Rising rock force Love Nor Money have recently announced their signing to Golden Robot Records and will release their new single ‘Blood Will Tell’ on Friday 13th June 2025. We had a quick chat with the band about the single and more:

Who is in Love Nor Money and what do you play?

Bobby Firth : vocals, bass
Eddie Firth : guitar
Troy Weaver : Drums

What is your earliest musical memory?

Bob – Being taken to see Madness at Doncaster Racecourse when I was 4

Eddie – Around the age of 5, commandeering my parents’ Nina Simone album and listening to it endlessly on repeat in my bedroom on a portable cd player.

When did you begin songwriting?

Bob – We’re from a really musical family – everyone plays. We’ve been jamming together, improvising and been creative for as long as I can remember but we seriously started writing when a gig with 4 other bands was booked for us at a renowned venue in Birmingham. We desperately needed songs as we thought we’d get laughed off the stage for playing covers so we spent 5 weeks going out of our minds writing a half hour set set for the gig. It went really well, but as it turned out we were the only band that night that played their own songs.

Your new single ‘Blood Will Tell’ will be released on 13th June 2025. What was the story/inspiration behind the track?

Blood Will Tell confronts self-entitlement and the toxic desire to see others fail.

Where did you record the song and who produced it?

Blood Will Tell was recorded at Magic Garden Studios, Wolverhampton by Gavin Monaghan and engineered by Liam Radburn.

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

We were told the studio had been known to be haunted. There’s a noise on the song that no one could explain where it came from so we kept it in. You can’t really hear it clearly on the final mix but to this day we still argue over what it is.

Did you use any particular instruments, microphones, recording equipment to help you get a particular sound/tone for the record?

Bob – We really like the John Lennon-style double tracking and reverb on the vocal – we’re massive Beatles fans.

Which of your tracks hear you at your a) happiest, b) angriest and c) most reflective?

At our most fun I’d say ‘Was It Something I Said?’ which is a poke of fun at cancel culture. It tells the story of someone regretting something that they had said and not actually knowing what it was. Angriest is definitely ‘Late Ultimatum’, it’s about as defiant as we get. Late Ultimatum is a song we relate to those who lost everything in the post-Covid UK cost-of-living crisis to the hands of greedy corporations in what felt like a hate-fuelled victory.  Reflection is not as easy, we tend not to write about ourselves but more from objective observations of others. Maybe ‘It May Not Be Your Friday Night.’ It’s about anti-conformity, we do our best to keep our own identity.

Was it a difficult song to write?

Bob – You could say that! It took about 6 months. It was one that we kept coming back to and put off finishing until we knew it was right while we worked on others. I don’t like to force things, songs come when they’re ready.

Do you have any further new music releases planned for 2025?

2 more singles and a second EP.

What two things do you hope to have achieved once you have left the stage?

That a live performance has represented the band at its most honest and vulnerable.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, microphones etc?

Eddie – We love Gibson guitars. I play an SG and a Les Paul, Bob has a J45 acoustic for our acoustic gigs. On the acoustic gigs we swap instruments so I play bass.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?

Birmingham – birth place of heavy metal

How do you look after your voices?

A strict diet of curry.

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

Bob – I read poetry more than novels. If I could music to a film inspired by works of Dylan Thomas that would be amazing.

Who are some of your musical influences? Do you have any recommendations?

Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, The Kinks, The Smiths, Neil Young, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith

We recommend: Sweaty Wednesday – check out his track Mr Swiss Cheese

Do you have any live dates in the UK/Europe for 2025?

The next show is on 5th July at the 02 Institute 3, Birmingham.

What makes Love Nor Money happy?

We’re at our absolute happiest in the recording studio. Seeing the tracks develop into something we weren’t expecting is just magical.
