Vocalist and songwriter Lynne Jackaman is returning to London for a headline show at Old St Pancras Church on Friday 3rd May 2024. We wanted to ask her about the show, her plans and more:

You will perform an ‘Evening With Lynne Jackaman’ on Friday, May 3rd 2024, at St Pancras Old Church in London, United Kingdom. What can people expect from the evening?

It’s so wonderful to be performing my own headline show again in London. May 3rd promises to be a very unique and special evening. This isn’t going to be just any show – it’s a rare opportunity to be the first to hear exclusive teasers of a few of my brand-new tracks straight from the studio to the stage, along with songs fans know and love from the vault and some juicy stories to top it off!

Will you have any musicians accompanying you, and if so, who are they, and what do they play?

Absolutely! I pride myself on playing with the best musicians I know to help create the ultimate experience for my fans. I also believe that if the performers on stage aren’t ‘feeling it’, the audience won’t be either, so you must choose your band wisely and instinctively. I’ll be joined by the very talented Jamie Evans on guitar – the producer of One Shot, along with Joe Glossop on piano, who played with my previous band Saint Jude and, for those Tom Jones fans, has been touring with him for years, I can’t think of a more fitting line up to fill the airwaves with soulful, heartfelt music at the iconic and magic St Pancras Old Church.

What was the first song that you ever wrote?

Wow, there’s a question! Outside of silly songs you write at school, my first serious song was called ‘The Way I Love You’. I wrote it on guitar, and it served as a wonderful bridge to connect with other musicians who would soon become instrumental in my musical journey.

What is your earliest musical memory?

I can’t remember a time when music wasn’t a part of my life. My parents are huge music lovers, so there were always great tunes from the ’60s and ’70s blasting out that hugely influenced me and my love for music. It’s no secret I’m a retro girl at heart! Those decades just knew how to groove!

How do you look after your voice?

Firstly, we must remember that, for singers, our instrument is in our body! If our body is tired, dehydrated, or run down, so is our voice! You can distinctly gauge someone’s vocal health by their speaking voice – in fact, it’s the first indication singing coaches will look out for! I carry out some simple yet extremely effective disciplines, such as drinking enough water (not sparkling), getting enough sleep, and not talking too much on the day of a performance. Warming up properly is also essential. After all, your vocal cords are two bands of smooth muscle tissue muscle! If you went for a run, you’d stretch first, right? I have always adopted a holistic approach to vocal health and strongly recommend natural, anti-inflammatory herbs and spices that have become my best friends at shows!

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals, or microphones?

It took me a long time to finally find the right microphone: The Electrovox RE20. Stevie Wonder used to use one, and they’re also used a lot on bass drums! It’s the only mic other than an SM58 for live shows, (which is a totally different thing to recording) that could handle the dynamics and power of my vocals. Having recorded in legendary studios, such as FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals and Abbey Road, I have tried and tested many mics, and this is definitely the one for me! I also love loop pedals and often played around with them during lockdown. I’m open-minded to anything that enhances the sound to improve the song and experience.

Who are some of your musical influences?

Well, I absolutely love singers, especially music from the ’60s and ’70s. My favourites, off the top of my head, are Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Gladys Knight, Bettie Davis, Candi Staton, Jimi Hendrix, Mahalia Jackson, and so many more!

You are given the opportunity to write the score for a film adaptation of a novel that you enjoy. Which novel is it and why?

It would have to be Blade Runner!

Do you have any further music releases planned, such as more singles, EPs or an album?

Absolutely! As my fans will know, I don’t like to over promise and never release anything until I feel it’s ready, as once it’s out, it’s out forever! However, I’ve been experimenting in the studio with Jamie Evans, and we have some new tunes that we are very excited about. I will make announcements about this after my show on May 3rd and, of course, give the fans a sneak peek into some of the new songs live on the night.

What makes Lynne Jackaman happy, and what makes you unhappy?

I am a huge advocate of the saying “Be Kind”. It costs nothing, and you never truly know how unconsidered words or actions could impact someone else’s life. The Beatles pretty much covered it when they sang “All You Need is Love”.

I am a huge animal lover and cannot stand to support harm or cruelty in any shape or form. I have been vegan and supported ethical and sustainable living for many years. It’s great to see growing awareness around this. Witnessing any being with a heartbeat thrive and stand in their power with the ability to utilise choice makes me happy. Outside of that, putting on one of my favourite vinyls and dancing like nobody’s watching works wonders, too!
