My Glass World are a duo who have already released their ‘Tree.Shadow.Piano’ in 2022 and will release ‘Assorted Marvels’ in 2024. They spoke to JLTT about their new album:

Who is in My Glass World and what do they play?

“Fundamentally it’s myself, Jamie Telford, and Sean Read with a rotating cast of others. We are quite complimentary in that I primarily play lots of keyboard instruments along with a bit of guitar, and lots of other instruments badly. Sean plays primarily saxes, but he also doubles up on trumpet, horns and a variety of other bits and pieces. The only thing we don’t really do is physically play Drums, although Sean is pretty adept at Drum programming.

How did you and Sean meet and start working together?

Originally, I went along to record with Sean as a solo artist and it developed from there.

Your latest album ‘Assorted Marvels’ is out in Jan. How did you want to approach the making of this record?

We just started. We didn’t know how it was going to turn out. Maybe there was an accent on doing even more just between us, with less input from others, to see how far we could get.

Where did you record it and who produced it?

We jointly produced it. Songs were recorded in Scotland and London

Do you have any interesting, funny or memorable stories from the recording sessions?

Every day sends something amusing along when we are working. It can be pretty light hearted. What isn’t funny, but ironic really, is that you can spend all day working on a track only to discover that the one you spend half an hour on earlier is way better.

What is the story/inspiration behind the album title ‘Assorted Marvels’?

Great title I thought when Rob Kesseler, an artist pal, announced he’d discovered that the shop/gallery he owned had once been called the very same. I pinched ‘Assorted Marvels’ as a title for the album – but later Rob told me he had misremembered it, and the shop had been called ‘Mixed Marvels’. I still kept the misremembered title, as it was far superior.

Where is your hometown and could you please describe it in five words?
Langholm: Small Quirky Scottish Border Town. Sean’s is Norwich A fine city.

The track ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ has an official music video. What was the thought process behind the video?

To publicise the plight of refugees everywhere.

Do you have any favoured stage instruments, effects, pedals etc?

Sean favours the excellent Yanigasawa Saxes. As for myself, any Grand Piano that’s reasonably in tune will do.

Do you have any plans for any live dates in the UK/Europe in 2024?

Yes but, no but… Spring?

Who created/designed the album cover?

The image was created by Jane Gifford, an artist who painted the surreal image called ,Boxheads, which was based on one of her dreams. The graphics are by Sophie Gibson.

What makes My Glass World happy and what makes you unhappy?

We both enjoy recording a lot. Live is great too, if we can manage to assemble everyone and have some time to rehearse. Otherwise it’s lunching in the cafés of Clapton.
